No duh it sounds great going into a cave alone anyone in the world can go into the wilderness and conquer them selfs, but how many can go into a 9-5 5 day a week 40 hours a week job deal with bills loses of loved ones and then conquer yourself within the chaos? Probably 1%.

Underground in a cave for 500 days and all she's managed to read is 60 books? During Covid, I averaged 4 books/week. And I had Wifi. So... same as always, actually. The only thing Covid changed for me was that I didn't go out except for getting vaccines, and eventually, just to shop for essentials. Of course, this woman may have been conserving her light source, I suppose. I would have asked for more batteries for light to read by, but I guess that's just me. I hope she's going to be ok to re-adjust to modern life. She's completely reset her whole lifestyle, which she may well like, but it might be unsustainable out here in the modern world, especially if she has family. I wish her well in re-transitioning to a more balanced life. The best of both worlds to her.

When I was seven and eight years old, I lived in San Bernardino, CA. Even back in the 70's, it was all cement and stucko. My step father took us for Japanese food one night, and the place was as unimpressive as one could imagine. The stucko building was almost perfectly square, and had that yellow color that looks like white plaster that had been out in the sun too long, or exposed to too much tobacco smoke. I'll never forget the stark contrast when we walked in the door.
The entire place was done like a Japanese garden, complete with a bridge over a babbling brook. Both the men and the women wore traditional, dress kimono's, and while you could tell some were not Japanese, it was difficult. It was also some of the most amazing food I've ever had.
My point, here, is that stark change in reality, even over just a couple hour period, had a profound effect on me. Sure, I remember bits and pieces from my childhood, but that one is a crystal clear memory. However, it's the contrast that's important. That's what this lady was doing by spending all that time in the cave. What a huge contrast from the hustle and bustle of most of our lives.
Sometimes, though, even small escapes make a difference. Just like Cenk was saying. He doesn't get enough time anymore, but trust me, every little bit you do get makes a huge difference. Also, it doesn't need to be antisocial. That works great for us introverts, but extroverts typically need to maintain social connection. That stark change of pace, regardless of its form, can provide amazing mental health benefits.
