Wealthy parents are dropping serious cash on birthday parties for their kids. Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss on The Young Turks. Watch TYT LIVE on weekdays 6-8 pm ET. http://youtube.com/theyoungturks/live Read more HERE: https://tinybeans.com/enough-over-the-top-kids-birthday-parties/ "If you're a parent with an Instagram account, you probably follow some celebrity or influencer parents, just by nature of the beast. You may have noticed over the last few years that children's birthday parties are taking on the extreme planning and expense usually reserved for landmark milestones like weddings or weddings. 'It used to be that over-the-top was looked down upon, but now over-the-top is applauded,' Leesa Zelken, the founder of Send in the Clowns, a party-planning service in Los Angeles, told the New York Times. The recent NYT article uncovered the extent to which Los Angeleno parents are going to make their kids feel extra special on their special days. And it's pretty ridiculous. Zelken tells the NYT that her packages for children's parties start at $14,500. 'For an event that I just booked, we're doing furniture rentals, a performer, a glitter tattoo station, a craft station, a pancake artist, a party manager, and a lifeguardbecause there's a pool and we need to make sure no one falls in,' she said. 'That's a very midsize party.'* *** The largest online progressive news show in the world. Hosted by Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian. LIVE weekdays 6-8 pm ET. Help support our mission and get perks. I have since responded to my neighbor’s $75,000 Birthday Party by spending $100,000 on my own child’s birthday party (I’m an oil executive worth $800 million). Needless to say, my neighbors are jealous.
@pickledpeaches7513 Says:
I feel like if people have the money to do it fine..although I do have a feeling this instills consumerism in young children that will forever believe this is normalized and soon becomes the expectation. Meh 🫤
@codelessunlimited7701 Says:
W about it? You should be complaining about government spending rather than rich people.
@crawdaddy2004 Says:
The vast majority of people don’t even make that much in a year.
@jacktaylor9290 Says:
So what? It's better than them hoarding that wealth.
@devon6152 Says:
Birthday party: children come to your house and bring a (modest) gift in exchange for cake and ice cream and a game or two or not. And that's how the cycle of bd parties goes.
@bisurker Says:
Truly a "Let them eat cake" moment in time.
@GrinningZaguate Says:
A decadent wealthy class, shrinking middle class, and expanding homelessness are all signs of a sick society in steep decline
@Deathtofrogleghorn Says:
Here’s my take on it-that’s their money though and if they want to spend their money like that, that’s their prerogative even if they’re trying to out-do a neighbor. At least the city too is generating cash too with them blocking streets. I made money too off of these events too. When the stadium used to lay us off after the season, I worked these extravagant birthday parties too to earn some extra cash on the side as well. I had to make some money somehow. I didn’t get paid a whole lot, but it also helped me sneak home extra food too on the side or I would use the event to sneak someone in I knew was struggling so they can have food too.
@OPSUNCIA Says:
Why does the left care so much with what people did with there hard earned money? Stop working a 9-5 and start your own business
@dandylion7028 Says:
I just see this as a business opportunity. I mean if the family is willing to spend that kind of money on an event I don't blame the party planners for obliging it its literally supplying an income for those vendors and those involved in set up so honestly have at it and if they have to pay for permits to close down areas for the event then that's money going back into the city it just needs to be utilized properly by the local municipalities that have this happen.
@phillair3813 Says:
How about having a give to the don't have's party AND a special cake; pool party.
@UraniumFractal Says:
I see no issue. Your average American birthday party would be unobtainable for most of the 8 billion people we share the planet with. Perspective.
@jawant6039 Says:
I'm so glad I did not take the route of mediocrity in high school. Progressives cheer for mediocrity and "just getting by". People like that disgusted me in high school, sorry ass C students who got mad because I always raised my hand in class to answer the questions teachers asked. I despised mediocrity in my high school peers and I despise it in adults. Progressives especially those promoting equality of outcome, were the same failures in school who got mad at those of us who excelled.
@aynrandfan7454 Says:
Why? They can spend their own money as they see fit. If you a poor that is your own fault stop whining and pull yourself up by your bootstraps and WORK HARDER AND INVEST MORE
@carloves7491 Says:
I love parties, if you gat it go for it. But it should be to impress the child and the child only. So a 1year old just needs a cupcake and some empty boxes.
@merbst Says:
i remember that a good birthday party of my childhood was those years when I got a free scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream at Baskin Robbins.
@misty-eyes Says:
The neighborhood ii grew up in in the North Shore of Chicago is extremely wealthy a lot of kids would get everything they ever wanted including new cars when they got their drivers license.
@misty-eyes Says:
Here in Tucson the parents get those Castle Trampoline things for the kids I remember once for my birthday during a bad snow storm yet my parents took us to what was a theme park in Chicago at the time called Santa's Village which is long gone now but it was a fun place all our friends were included. But spending that kind of money is crazy baby no way would i spend more than maybe $50 on a childs birtuand thats pushing it
@LegendaryBrandon1 Says:
Eat. The. Rich.
@kodywright6685 Says:
I mean I would have loved that kind of party like once in my life but I would be concerned with the kids losing their grip on reality after seeing their parents blow all this money for no reason
@kodywright6685 Says:
I mean we have good birthday parties I'm usually not allowed because now that's been created normal for some reason let's exclude me out of everything and then then you wonder why I'm upset when I'm excluded out
@TobiasTheWolf Says:
Everyone TYT uses the word “Uber” I remeber how old they are. Cringe
@orangecat5036 Says:
I grew-up in the houseing project's in new York, extreme poverty was no joke. For my birthday I'd be lucky to-get bette brocker's cake mix.
@allenrobinson8602 Says:
MUST BE A SLOW NEWS DAY.🤪
@jawant6039 Says:
The more the Left tries to shame success, the harder I strive for it. Ana is the most unconvincing champion of mediocrity ever.
@jakebrandon7632 Says:
Glad to know this is more newsworthy than riots and assaults in Chicago.
@ehm2943 Says:
It used to be that folks would save money to buy house instead of expensive unaffordable wedding - that is gone - now they double down on how to be poor by spending unaffordable children’s party - so much for equity 💩. Taxpayers beware of the liberal scam
@somchai272 Says:
Trumpers and Progressives seem to always know how to best spend others money.
@k.m.b969 Says:
Wow, I threw a paintball party for my son, it cost 1k and that was a big deal and I said it was fun but never again.
@jeffcoat1959 Says:
Do any of these rich folks even work for Uber?
@kurtsnyder4752 Says:
Keeping up, no, outdoing the Joneses.
@UmarKhan-jm2pp Says:
Parents who do this are narcissistic and trying to live their own insecurities through their kids. My dad was like that didn’t give us money but parties had to be a big occasion
@jillmiyagawa8971 Says:
It's not even the Uber wealthy. I know folks who are poor that do this crap. It makes NO sense to me. Their ( small party) was going to Chucky Cheese....
@jm5390 Says:
As a kid, I was happy having parties at the lake, a friend’s house, or an entertainment venue similar to Main Event or putt-putt golf. These parents are ridiculous.
@dann5515 Says:
idk.... isnt that giving their child to have a great fun birthday party with their friends and their parents. And at the same time paying so much is also a good things. The business is makings money emplyees getting their wages secured. And the suppliers store making business. is a win win to me. He have the money to pay then be it. Why would a stingy rich people is a good thing for everyone? That being said.. $75K is given how many people to have a job and income? Is not like you paying $75K to supply weapons for war.
@ladymeropi Says:
"Conspicuous Consumption' - Where the rich have so much that finding more ways to spend it is ever increasing. Horrifying that so many needy children are being denied free lunches at school, so many families are struggling to stay afloat with wages being so low, and no government support for daycare, that these rich kids are being so indulged by their parents who do not pay their fair share of taxes. Shameful waste of money which the rich feel so intitled to. TAX THEM and SHAME them if they have an ounce of morality left in them.
@robertadeakins-figueroa7368 Says:
The funny thing is that with a little imagination and a lot of help from Oriental Trading, you can put on some great parties for a couple hundred dollars.
@lindabayliss5228 Says:
A child’s birthday is always special, but I always baked my children’s birthday. Cakes etc, it’s the being together that counts.
@jasonsaenz8959 Says:
Wealthy? Has Anna ever heard of a block party?
@dotdot5668 Says:
Is it for the kids our the parents?
@armandolarade7861 Says:
75,000$ for a wedding??? Maybe you could spend 5000$ and save the 70,000$ for the divorce...but for a party? That's totally up to rich people, they have the money to burn, go for it, you can't bring it with you...now, I hope that they are also helping out charities that really make a difference. And they should pay a fairer amount of taxes....
@88happiness Says:
OMG, poor kids! How could parents think this is good for their children.?
@AdmiralBison Says:
The 1% Uber rich can live their lifestyles how they want. Still want to give them a special 'Guillotine tax' to cut them all down to size.
@ronaldgum6409 Says:
5:26 they can spend their money any way they want to. who are you to tell them how their money is to be spent?
@ronaldgum6409 Says:
4:58 this sounds like total jealousy to me!!!
@ronaldgum6409 Says:
So what, if they can afford it more power to them.
@mcxx871 Says:
Mind blowing!!
@Mortimer_Duke Says:
Unless you happen to be one of the vendors whose livelihoods these parents fund.
@TheLastLineLive Says:
Totally agree with Ana on the parking and street closures, if they want some big shindig they could rent out a party hall that has parking, or pay for a shuttle service to pick up the guests. Their party shouldn’t be allowed to infringe on others around them.
