Mary is a creature (God's most highly honoured one, mind you), and certainly not a God to be worshipped yet Catholicism has prayers asking Mary to help: In Roman Catholicism, the Hail Mary is the most prevalent prayer in the Rosary. Jesus is the great intercessor and we prayto him as the great intercessor to reach God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to pray to Mary.

This will offend some people, but I (& my family of 7 siblings & parents & 2 grandmothers) got saved (Born-Again) in 1976. Different times at different places for our own reasons.
I am 100% Irish, was definitely an Irish Catholic & my parents were definitely JFK supporters. I went to Catholic schools from 1st grade through college, even!
Now, I was blessed I wasn’t molested or hurt in anyway by nuns or priests (although I saw terrible behavior from Sister Donatus - Sister Donuts to us second graders), but I did have some nice nuns.
But my mother would go to these Parish meetings when the Pastor would explain all the new changes being handed down after Vatican II. Things that the day before, if you disobeyed, you went to Hell for. But “in the light of new evidence” (the new catch phrase) it was now changed! There were many things & questions they couldn’t answer from my mother, in front of other parents in this meeting. It got her to start looking up things. We had the Encyclopedia in our home. She looked up “Pope”. What?! Saint Peter was never the Pope? The first Pope was in like 300AD! What other lies was this religion teaching?

Anyway, God lead her (& our family) to a Bible Study where they read the Bible! Catholics don’t read the Bible! We had one from my parents wedding on a stand. But read it?
Anyway, 40+ years later, more & more have been exposed about this institution. And I am so happy I have walked away. I have done my own research & the rot is systemic. THIS DOESN’T MEAN ALL ARE ROTTEN. As I say, I’m not seeking any revenge for any wrong my family experienced, because we didn’t have a bad experience. But from what I have heard (& read), the rot will be exposed. But, I think, not everything. It could be extremely disturbing. Because I have relatives that still cling. I even had a priest (my first cousin, who recently died of cancer. He smoked).
So, Candace & her husband will need to reevaluate things. I’ve been set free to go directly to God the Father, Jesus Himself & the Holy Spirit invited inside me to guide me.
Candace has come a very long way in such a short time (from The Myth of the Coon days!!!). May she come ALL THE WAY! She’ll figure it out.

So the priests told you why they pray to Mary when Jesis Himself taught us how to pray. His mother was not included in the prayer. None of the apostles mention her in Acts or any the NT books outside of the gospels. How about asking them why we ask forgiveness through them instead of directly to Him as 1 John 1:9 tells us.
