The US is a union, Russia is a federation. The States are (originally) meant to be independent nations inside the Union. The concept is, different places with different people have different customs and one is always free to leave for another more suited to their desires. Different ways of doing things, governing lead to many ideas of which some fail, others succeed. The best ones should be replicated in the other states for greatest success. This is the idea behind the disbanding of the horrible teacher's Union. Trump 2024!

Last time I checked Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales have also their own local government. So do all 16 German states, all provinces in France and Belgium and even the states in the Netherlands and Switzerland and Austria and you get my point … weird complaint to have.

Well let’s not gloss over the fact that until the Civil War, the US still basically operated with the attitude that states WERE countries. People didn’t identify as “American” but as Texans, Virginian, and New Yorkers. “State” is a synonym for “country”, it’s not meant to be a synonym for “province”. It was only after the Civil War that we further centralized and started to force the concept of a unified “American” identity.

The king didnt really have a lot of power in the monarchy since the magna Carta in the 1200s he still got a lot of money and taxes and could pass laws kinda like a president but different title and over the whole thing instead of a semi-feudal system of the american states
