So glad to see Bill at PragerU!
If you liked this, then consider watching Bill Whittle's 13 part series "The Cold War" available at The Daily Wire. I've watched it 4 times, it's great!

Anyone who tries to explain the origins of the war without taking into account the 80+ years of French colonial domination is either ignorant or stupid, or is hoping that you are.
@ianblake815 Says:
Sorry to cramp everyone’s mood here, but we shouldn’t have been in Vietnam. A minimum of three million people were killed in Vietnam because of what we did there. The whole thing was an entirely offensive war against people who did not attack us or pose any threat to us.

LBJ’s “Great Society” programs are the beginning and at the root of MANY of our cockeyed socio-political problems over the past decades and even unto TODAY.
His inept “handling” of the Vietnam “Military Conflict” (NEVER a declared “War”) was tragic to hundreds of thousands of Our Military Personnel …
BUT …
His “Great Society” Programs have been DEVASTATING to Hundreds of Millions of US Citizens.
@bavykieng7777 Says:
After WW1, Ho Chi Minh went to the Treaty of Versailles to ask Woodrow Wilson to recognize the Vietnam as a sovereign country and not French Indo-China. The request by Ho Chi Minh went on deaf ears. The French ruled Vietnam colonized the Vietnamese with an Iron Fist and raped the Vietnamese people and their resources. Ho Chi Minh had to choose between the support of communism Russia and China or stay colonized by the French. I guess if it was you, you would have chosen communism also. After WW2 the French returned to Vietnam after getting their butt kick by the Germans only to do more of the same to the Vietnamese. Ho Chi Minh then help America to oust the Japanese from Vietnam also. So, the CIA already know Ho’s reputation as a Nationalist. LBJ actually relied on false information from the attack at the Gulf of Tonkin to escalate an unnecessary war. Comparing South Korea and Vietnam is like comparing apples and oranges.
@joezingher4770 Says:
You left out 1) LBJ kept all of JFK's advisors. 2) LBJ lied to the public about the attack on the Maddox, aka, the Gulf of Tonkin Incident where he claimed that North Vietnam torpedo boats attacked the Maddox causing damage and costing lives. 3) There was no such attack, so all of the men on that ship and one other were placed under orders not to reveal anything. 4) LBJ used that lie to expand US troop deployed over 2.7 million troops to S Vietnam. And the only reason he did it was to make himself look tough on communism, as JFK had done with the Bay of Pigs fiasco in Cuba.
@hogthomas762 Says:

For those interested in more, Hillsdale College historian Mark Moyar (BA, history, Harvard; PhD, history, University of Cambridge) is working on a trilogy of books on the Vietnam War. Currently only the first two volumes of the trilogy have been published - Triumph Forsaken and Triumph Regained. There's also the book Triumph Revisited in which other historians critique Moyar's arguments and Moyar responds to their criticisms. The other historians seem to be mostly liberal, Moyar is a conservative and argues (among other things) that much of the history on the Vietnam War that has seeped into the popular culture has been skewed by left-wing academics.

Vietnam was lost when Ike installed ngo Dinh diet as head of s Vietnam he ran a police state that systematically abused the population enabling Vietcong to control the countryside French were back there for eight years before we took over with several hundred thousand troops they also lost south Vietnamese army ran away would not fight. Johnson passed civil and voting rights Medicare Medicaid and immigration reform that’s why Association of academic historians rated him nine out of forty five and ranked your psychopathic deity trump dead last

Very inventive and modern update to the F-4 Phantom II fighter profile. Maybe you should have told McDonnell-Douglas how much less battle-wagon they'd look if they had swept the back bone up to the cockpit. (Sorry, airplane guy here.)

4:06 “Brutal communist invasion from North Korea” oh really, is that why 80% of the atrocities committed during the Korean War were committed by the south? I’m serious, look it up! In fact by 1990 90% of South Korean government officials had direct or indirect ties to the Japanese occupiers. Imagine in 1990 90% of French government officials had ties to the Nazis?
@gambitacio Says:
Lyndon B. Jonhnson is the same as Andrew Johnson. Weak.

@jakebate1533 Says:
If JFK was never assassinated, the Vietnam War would not have escalated and ruined America's reputation on the world stage. South Vietnam would have never fallen to the Communists. If South Vietnam did not fall to the Communists, it most likely would have evolved decades later into a more free society similar to South Korea and Taiwan.

Interesting tidbit fact, In every picture you ever see of LBJ with a suit jacket on, on his jacket is a U.S. Military Sliver Star (SSM) ribbon pinned.

LBJ held stock in companies that supported the war in Vietnam; LBJ wanted the Vietnam War, so he can get rich. Communism vs Capitalism? More like money and power.

@alexanderkeinashvili3576 Says:
What? This war needed to be fought? After US bombs killed 65000 civilians in Vietnam? Imperialistic ideology again. Just leave Vietnam and other countries, they will decide themself.
@robertcompton5232 Says:
Johnson waged a war on poverty-for himself. He made a fortune investigating in Bell helicopter, who had government contracts to produce the Huey for the Vietnam War. He stood by while the CIA dragged us into the proxy war against the USSR via Vietnam. He stood by while the coverup of the JFK assassination occurred, and he was probably complicit in the assassination.The Gulf of Tonkin was staged, later admitted by McNamara. This piece is very two dimensional and incomplete.
@bobibufi1389 Says:
what a shameful propaganda still, 60 years later. The files about Gulf of Tonkin incident have been long declassified, the truth is out, the rich and powerful of USA wanted this war and forced themselves into it. Just sold American people the sweet words about protecting a poor South Korea, and sprinkle it with a fear about spreading of communism around the world and the need for involvement.
The truth is war is good for business, and American military industrial complex wanted this war and they got this war. Forget the lies about incompetency, things happen for a reason, they had thousands of best analysts working day and night. For example, as mentioned in this video, big cities like Hanoi or Haiphong couldn't be attacked by American generals - the reason was so the the war is not won, and it drags on, increasing the profits of MIC.
Educate yourselves.
@Frisbinator Says:
Read “Dereliction of Duty” for more details regarding how this war was fought, a complete failure.

China treaded the same path - it's more capitalist than communist. And authoritarian regimes in S.Korea, Taiwan and Singapore also made them Asia's 'Tiger Economies'. Democracy may have been good for the West...so far. Let's see where it takes it from hereon. @minhtovunhat5389
@Naps56 Says:
So 60 years later, has an independent Vietnam turned out be an asset or a liability in USA's QUAD strategy?
@redblaze8700 Says:
If you're going to talk about the Vietnam war, you need to start with its' colonial past as a French colony, but i guess that would disprove the view that Americans were the good guys.
@canoedoc2390 Says:
He was responsible for the fall of South Vietnam as well as the destruction of the integrity of the black family and their ultimate enslavement on the urban welfare plantation, where their votes could be reliably harvested. Instead of victory through strength, it was predictable defeat through "compassionate" weakness.

I remember watching an interview with a former wild weasel crew member. The first major operation against those "SAM sights" were decoys. Turns out John's cabinet gave the North Vietnam an early warning and which "sights" were targeted. The NVA used this to set a trap for those air crews.
Lyndon Johnson was just one of the worst presidents in history.

My father, a Vietnam vet, claimed the war was lost by the government and the media. He hated Johnson.
@billwatson8616 Says:
I hate to say this, but Bobby and Jack signed an executive order for a complete pull out of Vietnam 2 weeks before JFK was assassinated. JFK was a foreign advisor for Vietnam before he was president. JFK said he had some reservations about going into any war in Vietnam considering how bad things ended for the French.
Problem for JFK, all of his cabinet were in for war with Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis. Bobby and Jack were just about the only 2 in the room who did NOT want war in Cuba. Kennedy's cabinet were war mongers.
It was never mentioned about Richard Nixon making a deal behind the scenes with the leadership of Viet Cong , instead of Johnson. Nixon told Viet Cong would get a better deal from him than Johnson. How many needless US serviceman died in Vietnam to make this deal? I do not respect either one's actions in the Vietnam war.
The other thing that was not mentioned, but Vietnam vets who were stationed over in there were guarding oil and rubber reserves. The lure of oil in the Caribbean did not stop George H Bush in getting into the oil business after the Bay of Pigs. Were troops guarding the Vietnamese resources to be doing the right thing? I doubt it.
This is the US government machine that assassinated JFK and used the Warren Commission to cover it up. This is the day that the US government lost all innocence and good will towards other people (without making them rich for their "goodwill".
Trump said he would release the last files on the JFK assassination to the public. We need him in the Whitehouse to finally see some transparency in the Whitehouse for the first time since 1963.....
@JonBGreen91 Says:
I don' t know if there is a worse president in modern history which set the seeds for today's conflict.
Maybe Wilson and his military evangelism?
