Users must go onto down detector website and log that they have an issue with whatever connection they have problems with and it is added to a live outage reporting map and graph that shows only data from user that logged it in the website.
That is why there are so many unaccounted users on those graphs and numbers.

I'm not an expert and a bad analogy! A solar flair effect is kinda like having 2 different manufacturers cordless phones in your house that both work on 2.4 gigahertz frequency. They will cancel each other out. Leaving you with dead phones until you change the frequency of one of the phones or you unplug one phone. An electromagnetic field(solar flare) has a frequency and you can do anything but ride it out. That's just my understanding of the topic. Hope it helps.

As a former Motorola certified technician which I am no longer, and having time in the cell phone industry. I can tell you they are all connected. One thing I noticed years ago is one of the companies would be awesome and everybody would switch to that company and another company would be terrible. Then the roles would be reversed again and again. When I realized just how many businesses would have to switch back and forth to get coverage and the amount they had to pay in contract cancellation fees it was astounding yet made perfect sense.

This outage also affected onstar services for your vehicle. I try to contact on star. To ask why my vehicles Wi-Fi wasn't working. I hit the onstar button and it just continued to attempt to connect. Then it hung up after five minutes. I truly wonder how many people died during this time. Frame because they could not get help.
