Houthi rebels, armed by Iran, destroying China's export market. Now Chinese ships are patrolling and shooting at Houthis, who again are allies of Iran, who should be in the same bloc as Russia and China.
But they don't want the same things, these countries. Nor do they have the same means of achieving their ambitions.
Which is also why China isn't going to fund Russia's eastern gas pipelines. They know Russia is weak, so they expect they can make Russia pay for it. After all, China isn't looking to becoming an equal with Russia, they are actively vassalizing Russia into a larger North-Korea.
