"A Florida lawmaker says she is open to changing a bill that got people barking because it would ban dogs from sticking their heads out of a car window.
Lauren Book, the Democratic leader in the Florida senate, proposed the restriction in a bill, SB 932, filed last week. The measure would have made it illegal to 'allow a dog to extend its head or any other body part outside a motor vehicle window while the person is operating the motor vehicle on a public roadway'.
It also would make it illegal to hold a dog in one's lap while driving and require that any dog being transported be restrained.
Anyone who violated those provisions would be subject to a non-criminal traffic infraction, the bill says."

It's illegal in California for dogs to stick their heads out of car windows. If a person is spotted with a dog's head out of a car window by police, sheriff's deputies, CHP, or any other law enforcement, will result in a ticket.

I was recently in a horrible head on collision. Thankful I was able to get out of the car and lay down on the road. I shortly then there realized that my dog was in the back seat. It was the worst part of all of it. I’m thankful to say that today my little man has zero issues getting around but it did not come with many surgeries and tears. Now he NEVER rides in the car without his crate.

Good. Dogs sticking their heads out the window is dangerous for them. They should be safely secured, not able to jump out of the window or flung around in the event of an accident. Would you let your kid stick their head out the window constantly while driving 40+mph on streets? If yes, you shouldn't have kids, and if you do this with your dogs, you shouldn't have them either.
Every part of this bill makes sense. It's not sending careless dog owners to jail or taking away their dogs if they violate the law and it's banning cruel animal practices.

So, some of these measures are great, not letting a dog put their head out the window on the country road on Saturday afternoon is just criminal...though not allowing it on the HW or at speeds higher than 35 or 40 mph should for sure be law. That would be too complicated to manage as a regulation so everyone loses, and the rest of the bill is a great first step to destroying the animal mills down in FL.

Gratefully we were driving really slow, but my mom had to slam on her brakes and Butch fell out the window. He was fine but 50+ years later, I am still traumatized. It's usually a certain benefit to humans that allow misinformation like that to spread.
It's amazing how many people think animals aren't harmed in animal agriculture, whether it's factory farms, local or grass-fed. Or that fish don't suffer from hooks or being taken out the water.
