Did you understand the Electoral College before watching this video?
@craigmccall7450 Says:
Pretty sure if California had a [county] electoral college, this state would be red 100%.
@colineyeball Says:
How do you find "who" is an elector?
@Rob-vv3ik Says:
It is absolutely insane that the founding fathers of this country had so much vision and forethought, truly the greatest country there is and will ever be.

I still don't understand it. It sounds good though. White people are very smart!
@cw3365 Says:
Ummmm..... USA is a constitutional republic, not a democracy 🤷
@wyominghome4857 Says:
Most people know as much about the Electoral College as they do about fascism. My husband tells me that some blue states - Colorado among them - are floating the idea of giving all of their EC votes to whoever candidate wins the popular vote. I suspect the assumption that Democrats always win the popular vote is getting a panicked reassessment this week.

I still don't get it. How did Bernie not get chosen to run when most of the country came out for him?

Superb

I understand the vast majority of the population lives on the East & West coasts. If the election was determined by popular vote, the central part of the US wouldn't have a voice.

@perspicator5779 Says:
You should have explained the historical concentration of population in Virginia and New York at the time of the writing of the Constitution, as those states would have controlled the national House of Representatives in perpetuity until other states had and increase in population to balace the representation in the House. Smaller states' balance of power was then their option to counterbalance the representative power of those two larger populated states. Your other postions/arguments though are also nicely valid! What stuns me in this modern time is the astonishing ignorance of Americans of our history and the principles of basic government as established by the founding fathers! God help this nation!
@mikeanderson7839 Says:
Of course Democrats want to eliminate it.
@harryg6490 Says:
Do the electoral vote? And how
@Warriorking.1963 Says:
I'm not an American so am ignorant of the full workings of the Electoral College, but I don't understand how there are 538 electors voted into it. If there are fifty states plus Washington DC, and each elects four electors, would that not mean there would be only 204? I know I'm missing something obvious here, but for the life of me I can't get my sums to add up.
@GitzenShiggles Says:
Democrats from 2008-2016: "We respect the Electoral College." Democrats in 2016: "The Electoral College should be banned." Democrats in 2020: "We respect the Electoral College." Democrats after today: "The Electoral College should be banned."

This should be mandatory viewing for all kids in every grade from 5th through 12th and mandatory to watch it every year and have a test on it.
@johncarter1137 Says:
Our founding fathers thought of each state as a separate country because that's what the original 13 colonies were. They united the colonies and wanted each one to have representation on how the country was governed. They formed the United States of America, not the United People of America. Our form of government isn't perfect, no form is, but it's the best of all the options.
@phatphan1403 Says:
A true democracy with popular voting is extremely dangerous because people are irrational and selfish in general. In an election between a candidate promises free money handout and taxes the richs and another candidate who promises more jobs with low taxes, guess who will win?😅

Tara Ross spoke well, and the graphics were good, but she did not explain how a fumbling halfwit / child molester / woman groper named Joe Biden could have been picked by the Electors of the Electoral College in 2020? Not all of the "Electors" are U.S. Senators and H. of R. members. Some "Electors" are NOT members of either part of the Legislature.

What you just stated is illegal. Each elector is to select the two people they think would be the best President only one of which is to be from their own state. They put the names of their choices in a sealed envelope which is sent to the Congress. Congress is to tally the names from each Electors sealed envelope. The person who gets the most votes becomes President. The person with the second highest number of votes becomes vice-president. No political parties are involved. No public vote is held. Read Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 3-5. The Twelfth Ammendment is illegal, as it changes the wording of the original document. According to Black's Law Dictionary, and Ammendment is only permitted to add to a contract. Ammendments are not permitted to change the wording of the original contract. The real purpose of the Electoral College is to nominate candidates for president. Then their nominations are tabulatid by the State and Forwarded to the Senate for a complete tabulation. They do not meet in one place and mirror any popular vote. They actually Have a function, as WE ARE A REPUBLIC!
@ddale20 Says:
For all you emotional and clueless about the Constitution and the voting process, the popular vote would lead to a dictatorship! However, this is why the democrats are trying to circumvent the Constitution by ignoring the Constitution and allowing illegals to invade and vote to keep them in power! Time for the POTUS and SCOTUS to step in!
@AnnSisuLiv Says:
It's shocking how many older people don't understand this.
@StephanieGencheff Says:
I would like to hear what Tara Ross thinks of the National Popular Vote Compact which 17 states have added to their constitutions. It eviscerates the intent of the electoral college. How can this be legal?

People who complain about the 2000 election should also remember that Al Gore would have won the election if only he had won his own home state, Tennesee, which he had been representing for 2 senatorial terms until called to be Vice President. If his own constituents didn't think he was up to the job of being President, why would the rest of the country?
@martingallegos9215 Says:
Why vote then ?
@milletrad8871 Says:
Ms. Ross's explanation is lucid and outstanding.
@johnk2452 Says:
*_As a NATION, we put WAY TOO MUCH emphasis on the concept of POTUS as KING!_* POTUS, originally, was largely the EXECUTIVE for ONLY the legislation enacted by Congress; a Congress that was supposed to represent the COMBINED WILLS of the PEOPLE and the STATES. However, since the 17th Amendment [1913] --- direct election of Senators --- our Fed GOVT has USURPED much of what was the responsibilities of STATES and the PEOPLE. Such has resulted in the POWER of POTUS being OVER-expanded MASSIVELY. From our inception, per our Unanimous Declaration of 4 July 1776, our NATION has recognized that WE The People are the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY and that the several STATES --- then 13 and now 50 --- are the Controlling LEGAL Authority; that is, the sovereign entity for the administration of our system of GOVT. Afterward, however, the Several States established our national Confederated GOVT [1781] and shortly thereafter [1787] replaced it with our current national Federated GOVT. Therefore, in our USA Congress, per our current Constitution, both We The People and the Several STATES require representation; where [a] the House of Representatives represents DIRECTLY the interest of We The People; and, [2] the Senate represents DIRECTLY the interest of the several STATES. Further, this is why our Fed GOVT Constitution has Article V that recognizes, in addition to Congress alone, both the STATES and the PEOPLE --- independent of Congress --- have the authority to propose to amend this Constitution. Further, our 10th Amendment states that all matters not addressed specifically in this Constitution are matters reserved strictly for the STATES and the PEOPLE. Again, per our Unanimous Declaration, the PEOPLE are the ultimate authority and the STATES are the ultimate legal administrators of such authority. Totally contrary to this notion --- that is, totally contrary to the intentions and designs of both our FOUNDERS and our FRAMERS --- the statement that "I have a phone and I have a pen", which is now the attitude of POTUS --- and much of the Admin State --- is emblematic of the fact of this excessive POWER is now INCORRECTLY --- and I will say UNCONSTITUTIONALLY --- in the hands of one person. So, BEFORE making any adjustments to our Electoral College, is it not much more important to take our system of GOVT back to a place where, respectively, the People, the STATES, the Congress, POTUS, etc have their original intended authority and ONLY that authority? Why would we do that, you may ask? Because, in that way, the final political decision-making process will be best returned more directly to We The People --- that is, We who are the ultimate authority --- and NOT so much in the hands of one person.
@billye9351 Says:
Yes, but I didn’t know 538.. I focus on 270 to win. The Electoral College is beautiful
@AlecWelsh-ut7cc Says:
This is not why the electoral college was created. The original purpose was the founding fathers didn't believe average farmers knew enough to elect a president so they would elect a electoral college representative and he would make the decision. Now that electoral are bound by the law the electoral college doesn't serve it's original purpose. It is also not true that presidential candidates would only focus on large cities if we had a popular vote. It would force candaita to treat all states as if they are in play since even losing by a small percentage could swing the election. This is dishonest right wing propaganda
@AlexanderOnTube Says:
It didnt explain the following, if the majority of a states choses all democrat/Republican electors, and those in their turn vote for the democrat/republican candidate, doesnt that translate to "people of this state voted for this candidate?"
@DavidSharpe-c5d Says:
A good example as to why I favor the electoral college is the situation of California. Allegedly, voters don't have to show their i.d. to vote (unAmerican!). So, they may have 24M votes of which 20M could go to the Democrat candidate (California is controlled by Democrats). That would be and big boost in a popular vote situation. However, this piling on does not matter with the electoral college in tact. They will get their 54 electoral votes no matter if they have 14M or 20M. I disagree with shady election practices and am against mob rule.
@janesmith9968 Says:
Another reason is that with only the popular votes counting, it would take months to get every vote counted and decided who won. This putting the country at risk of not have a leader for an extended length of time. Which would weaken the country's security against enemy countries. Also there would be bickering between parties as to who won that would never come to an end . We need the elections to be decided as soon as possible for this reason also. And also all the states getting to have a part in the election results instead of just a few largest states.
@anthonysanlucas6437 Says:
And why does California have celebrities as their electors? What do celebrities know about the struggles of the average California tax payer?
@westlands703 Says:
The Founding Fathers feared mob rule, because most of the population was uneducated, ill informed, and clueless – like it is today. The only direct election the Founding Fathers created in the Constitution was for the House of Representatives. The representatives were elected every 2 years from a small, district population, so you had a chance of personally knowing the candidates. An election mistake (such as AOC) could be remedied in a mere 2 years. The House election was supposed to be the only direct election. The US Senate members were appointed to 6-year terms by the state legislatures, until the “progressive” 17th Amendment, ratified in 1913. This direct election of senators deprived the states of any meaningful input into the congress. This amendment was aimed at killing states’ rights and muting state power. If direct election is so good and “progressive,” why can’t we elect federal judges? The Founding Fathers appointed federal judges for life to avoid the influence of the unsavory mob. Electoral College (EC) electors are directly elected, not presidential candidates. This two-step approach was a safeguard against mob rule, since the EC electors actually elect the president in a separate election and they can change their votes to block mob rule candidates. Mob rule is still the biggest threat we face today. The calculus is clear: mob rule = Democrat Party.
@thomasshoff6512 Says:
Most voters apparently DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT STRAIGHT MAJORITY RULES SUCK! We have a republic and need each state to have some equality of power. If we went majority, large highly populous states would control Washington! Majority rules work well only on issues that effect small groups that understand the rules.
