I think the citizens of Springfield have given up and understandably so. If you have a car accident in this city, IF the police respond, they will say, "There's nothing we can do" and leave, if they see it involves a Haitian. The citizens don't exist, because there is no data. They don't want data. There was a November 2023 election that seated Tracey Tackett on the city commission with 62% of the vote. That seems like the majority loved her platform of specifically helping the Haitians, but she only got 6900 votes. The turnout was ~10K.
I think we're all just tired and defeated from explaining and justifying our realities to the people we pay to support and represent us. People in abusive relationships take it for a long time. Or, frogs in boiling water. Both apply here.
