The Harper era was better, because unlike Obama, who was president of the US at the time, Harper kept his economy strong and resilient while Obama's economy suffered from a prolonged weak USD.

When Canada Owes 1.2 Trillion instead of paying this down which brings our dollar back up. It instead keeps over spending which shows up at our stores, rents, morgages etc as a weaker dollor that buys less goods. Pay down the debt equals cheaper goods because of the stronger dollor. It's simple math. Currently we spend 60 to 70 billion a year to just service the interest on the dept owed. Keep on spending will only make it worse.
