The disabled and elderly have to pay thousands out of pocket to get caretaking services which is not possible for most of them.

2. The Dems and progressives have not made strong enough policies, or plans to make this a reality.
What do I mean by this? The initial costs of that system will be through the roof. By people getting the care that they had to put off because they had no money before to pay for that. Also you think that hospitals, doctors, drug companies, and insurance companies won`t try to gauge the people one last time before the government takes control? They have been gouging us for years but all the sudden they won`t try it if universal healthcare comes to the states.
3. Once universal health care comes to the states everyone will have to be willing to take at least a 20% tax rate hike to make the system sustainable. If you compare the average tax payer now in the states we pay around a 15% tax once you take a look at the countries that have universal health care they pay at least 35% on their taxes. Don`t buy into the idea of raising taxes on the rich will pay for this. This was also a promise to the people once the government made the income tax. Eventually everyone had to the income tax. Everyone will be affected by that tax increase. Once the initial costs are taken care of, and the overall costs of medical care comes down too. Then maybe the taxes will be reduced too but we will have to see on that. There is also a chance that you`ll see the same problems that exists in todays insurance companies. For instance I have seen some countries introduce a co pay to make their system sustainable.

All Australians pay 2% extra on their tax every year. That’s $2 for every $100 earned. This is the Medicare Levy. Everybody gets Medicare cover. People on aged care and social security benefits get free doctor visits. Everybody else pays about $7. Certain specialty operations cost more but for most of the minor, general stuff it’s great. We also have private health insurance for people who want private hospital cover, but our public hospitals are usually pretty good. You always hear some bad stories, but for the most part our health system is pretty good.
