Israel had to respond to Hamas on October 7, then the next day and till Israel responded Hezbollah attacked them from the north, then Iran attacked and Israel responded. I take issue with your term "escalation". Escalation is what's been happening for years without Israel responding. Please ask yourself how long Israel should allow their people to be attacked, children playing underground because of missiles, etc. There is no level of deescalation that will stop Hezbollah, Hamas or Iran from attacking them. Even during "ceasefires" Israel has been attacked. At some point pundits like yourself have to acknowledge there will no peace until Arab states stop their provocations.
