Okay so the pay to stay thing is you work while your in prison. For 20-40 cents an hour. Then federal prison is just free but you still work but for a better wage. Also stamps and food are now the currency in prison. Or you write you family and have them put money in another inmate account.

The only way you will go to prison for weed in the US is if you have a large amount, are selling pot, or if you have many prior arrests.
If you just get a simple possession charge, you can file so that if you go through probation successfully the entire charge will vanish from your record.
