Just ate some McDonald's and it's worse than ever! The quality, if you can use that word in this context, has definitely diminished. The employees don't need a raise, they need a match....
@dentpeninde Says:
Think of the quality of that meal!
@marcvslicinivscrassvs7536 Says:
Grocery stores won't be an escape for long. I went to Sprouts the other day. A pound of ground beef was 7.53. I went to Walmart yesterday. A pound of ground beef was 6.89. And this is in a cheaper part of California. We haven't seen anything yet. Grocery stores know people are buying more and more. They will adjust their proces accordingly.

My son said they have cut everyone's hours and advised them to work as slow as possible! Some days they lock the door and have folks do drive thru only.
@josephfbuck Says:
Your story is not quite accurate because the fact is the immigrants their employment is good to be subsidized like when we took so many off the welfare rolls where the employer was getting as much as 2/3 of the wages for a period of time paid by the government where the regular US citizen won't qualify for this as an employee but the migrant citizen already does
@LuckyBoy-y7h Says:
I don't blame governor Newsom.Why?Because he only did what the adult workong at fast food restaurants ask for . They wanted $ 20. They got it now they should not be complaining about working less ours of getting laid off. I remember back in the 80s and 90s.I used to see teenagers working at fast food now.I see 30 40 50-year-olds adults, no wonder this young teens can't get a per jar to fast food anymore.
@DarkHorseParatrooper Says:
Your argument holds no logical weight. The people complaining about needing 20 an hour are the same ones that were working these jobs. So its THEIR fault. Unskilled labor consisting of high school drop outs and people who barely graduated hs dont deserve 20/hour. This is America, you work for things you want.
@Bailey-cx7zz Says:
Well we're going to lose another 10k jobs because we're moving minimum wage up to 32 dollars an hour that's going to be on the next ballot and I'm voting for it. We need living wage or no wage. We got to get as american people no more free bees for business they will pay or leave period
@paulthegameralt2796 Says:
What a ridiculous, crazy, ignorant claim. 3000 employers will be affected by the increase in the minimum wage. 500,000 employees will receive a pay raise Higher minimum wages will not lead to unemployment as has been proven regarding the federal minimum wage in every required report since 1938. Rubio's went bankrupt in 2020 - before the increase in the minimum wage. Only a fool would claim that the minimum wage increase lead to the closure of 48 Rubio's restaurants. Of course, employers and their dupes will continue with the discredited chestnuts because they know that PROFITS might be reduced.

As someone who had a small restaurant… I would not survive paying employees $20 an hour. I also don’t want to increase the prices of the food. I will loose customers. I rather not hire anyone outside of my crew. F that!

flipping burgers was NEVER meant to be a job that could support a family. it was meant to be a first job for high school kids to get their toes into the working pool.

@alexselness8309 Says:
this is called greed. these companies can definitely afford this, but oh no, it will cut into their profits. same concept when your renting. inflation happens and our rent goes up??? this should be at the cost of the owner not the people

They were never going to force major corporations to pay their workers $20 an hour for entry-level work. Mostly did it because they wanted to give the illegal alien population more money every policy has been for helping illegal aliens.

@darkgalaxy5548 Says:
These jobs were of no real value to the economy. You couldn't put a roof over your head & food on the table on what you took home. They offered no real opportunities to gain & grow a valuable skill. If you put fast food worker on your resume, potential employers just saw Loser. Any time you spent flipping burgers would be better spent learning a real trade. The only thing you contributed was to make Californians even more obese.

@troyfall6573 Says:
JBL the people who think 20$ minimum wage will not result in job losses are the same people that think paying homeless people $1200/month will decrease homelessness. They are the same people that think not prosecuting criminals will result in less crime. They are the same that think that we should have open borders without thinking how it will effect the federal deficit, sex trafficking and drug trafficking and criminal behavior. They voted for this in California and they will continue to vote the same despite it destroying their state and country.

I’m a new nurse, but before I graduated, I worked fast food for eight years.
Had I’d not been able to live at home rent free, I would have not been able to pursue secondary education.
I worked FULL TIME as a shift manager while doing classes five days a week. Many of my classmates did that while being parents on top of that.
My point is: Stop saying fast food workers don’t deserve to be able to pay bills.
A job is a job. My boomer grandparents bought two homes working factory jobs.

@ExaltedDuck Says:
No amount of legislation will ever change the fact that the minimum wage truly is zero. If a job can't.produce a reasonable return on the cost of it and with factoring the various risks and liabilities of retaining an employee, then that job ceases to exist.

If you think it’s bad at MacDonald’s, Burger King and so on, when it comes to high prices wait till you go to Pollo Loco. The last few times I’ve gone there the price has risen by a dollar or more and that’s without a drink. It’s my wife’s favorite place to eat chicken but for the price they charge we might as well buy a rotisserie chicken at Costco. It’s not worth going out to these overpriced fast food restaurants here in the high desert of California it’s too damn expensive.

The people who signed the petition when it was circulating a few years ago don’t understand the backside numbers that the owners have to increase in order to pay the new wages.
Insurance, workers comp, payroll taxes,
The frontside $4 increase from $16 to $20
Probably cost the owners $5.50 plus.
And that’s what I told the kids who were trying to get the petition signed. I also told them that people would lose jobs because of the wage hike.
Had the increase been phased in over several years. Maybe it would have worked.
