One of my co-workers was the daughter of the cameraman filming the entire court prosecution as well as the documentary that was done on this story. It came out, and is believed that it was actually OJ's son who killed his wife and her friend. I like to recall OJ as the superb running back he was for the Buffalo Bills. But we cannot talk about OJ and not talk about the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson (NBS) and Ron Goldman (RG) and the criminal trial that followed.
Facts: NBS was attacked first. We know this because there was no blood on the soles of her shoes. There was blood on the soles of RG's shoes. He was attacked after NBS went down.
NBS was killed with one cut. That cut severed her windpipe, her jugular veins, her carotid arteries, and cut into a cervical vertebra. IMO her killer had experience doing this.
RG was stabbed several times. The killing wound pierced his aorta. He bled out. IMO his attacker had no experience but his killer did.
My theory:
Did OJ kill NBS? No.
Did OJ kill RG? No. OJ tried to kill him but fumbled the attack. NBS's killer finished RG.
This means OJ did not act alone. He hired a killer. OJ and the hired killer were surprised when NBS brought RG home as her cock-du-jour. What was meant to be a one-on-one killing became a two-man job. OJ was not up to the task. The hired killer was.
The trial: My wife and I were attorneys. We watched the trial. IMO the jury made the correct decision. Had the trial been in a Scottish court, the verdict would have been "Not guilty. Case not proven."
Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden ran with the theory given them by the LAPD. The foundation of that theory was a tight timeline given in evidence by several witnesses. This was inherently flawed.
Next time you are with a circle of friends – six to eight – ask each one to tell you the time to the minute using their watches. Do they agree on the same time?
The prosecutors' timeline depended on accuracy and agreement on the time by multiple witnesses. The prosecutors' theory was that OJ acted alone and had the knife skill to kill NBS and RG. The prosecutors blinded themselves to other theories that fitted the facts better.
FYI for their failures, the LA DA paid bonuses to Marcia Clark and Chris Darden.
FWIW on the third day of the trial, Racehorse Haynes – acting as a legal commentator for a major network (ABC?) – said the trial was over and that OJ would be acquitted. (At the time, Racehorse was the best defense lawyer in the country.) This did not sit well with the chiefs of the network 'cause it lost them viewers. The chiefs fired Racehorse and hired a crim law professor from UCLA who talked like the struggle between the prosecutors and the defense each day was close. Was that good for ratings? Dunno.
