Thomas Sowell discovered this while at Cornell in 1965. He wrote about it in several books from the 1980s. Sowell predated Gladwell.
@mrivera0546 Says:
White Americans were the ones that caused the need for Affirmative Action.
@myaccount5204 Says:
The real victims were the white people who didn’t get in even though they had the ability to succeed. We as a nation need to stop acting like this shit doesn’t piss off white people. And later, if that white person is in a position to hire, he is going to favor white people because he knows they had to be better to make it
@moonbuni59 Says:
Setting people up for failure, but leaving them with the debt of an aborted education they will never be able to use. I really feel that the smartest play should be to abolish the college loan programs. Have the ones that have debt pay it off and stop loaning money. This would cause the prices of all education to fall and make those going there more responsible. Why go to a community college you can afford when you can take out huge loans on the chance you will be able to pay them back.
@barneydenstad2148 Says:
Yeah. If you are decent but not top notch, you will have better chances for a positive development at a regular college. If you become in- quoted into a top university, you will at verry best be a mediocre student; probably in the lowest group. You will feel more or less a failure... quoteing in is almost always bad for all. That said, its a wise taking in a brilliant mind as wild card - occasionally.
@jimfischione2743 Says:
Thomas Sowell has been saying this for YEARS. But, nobody wants to hear that.

@sgomez3047 Says:
Well said!!! One should have the grade in order to get in..PERIOD!! not this affirmative action shenanigans!! Oh...did i mention that im the minority!!
@cheshirelizzy Says:
Unfortunately, this would often mean people of lower socioeconomic levels (rural and inner city folk) would be over represented together and wouldn’t be given a chance to select from some of the better careers and those who had excellent schools, and lived in suburban places, would saturate the higher institutions and positions. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a very good example of a woman who didn’t perform well in exams when she first arrived in the Netherlands but she quickly shot up in ability and her IQ is obviously very high. I wonder if some disadvantaged children might really benefit from better training at the other end of school and be able to compete with cohorts who were given advantages before university. So many young people still have so much they can cram in at eighteen and it is possible they could cope. It’s nice to give them a chance.

I think this is part of common knowledge. The arrogance to call it "Mismatch Theory" is typical of modern pomposity.
@franceshaypenny8481 Says:
Ok, but Malcom Gladwell is still a lefty douche bag, s'all I'm sayin'.
@bent540 Says:
so smart and yet you think she is the victim of affirmative action and not your wifes friends with a higher score who got passed over! leftism is an end stage cancer in modern civilizations! letting people get jobs and educations because of their gender and skincolor is absolutely detestable! anti racism=racism
@gamewizard1760 Says:
We have community colleges for a reason. Not everyone will succeed in an Ivy League school.
@TheHouseOfWaffles Says:
At my university certain courses were offered _annually,_ namely Japanese 1010/2010 in the fall, and Japanese 1020/2020 in the spring. 1010 was the only class that focused on *how to read the Japanese alphabet.* I remember in my 1020 class, we were already a week or two into the course when one girl got picked on to read out of the textbook, and she reluctantly admitted, "I can't read it!" With zero _real_ experience with the language (you know, other than watching a lot of anime), she had skipped Japanese 1010 since it wasn't available that semester and thought she'd be fine to jump into 1020. I never saw that girl again, as she likely dropped the class. Maybe she signed up for 1010 in the fall like she should have, I don't know. If somebody had stepped in and told her, "Hey, you shouldn't take this class; it's _way_ over your head," she would have been spared a lot of embarrassment and wasted time (and money unless she got reimbursed for dropping the class so early). Affirmative action is a lot like this, putting people in positions they just aren't prepared to handle.
@Post-Trib Says:
Thomas Sowell covered this extensively
@josephbuehrlen2233 Says:
Interesting how republicans preach socialistic ideals. It is but never use them.
@GodBlessedAmerica Says:
One word to describe most of today’s society, “misguided”.
@gorgeousfreeman1318 Says:
Focus more on affirmative action in the workforce, since it was pretty much killed in education.
@identity7782 Says:
The leftists will just give them passing marks, Like Fani the DA down in Georgia. She has a law degree, and now is the head prosecutor in the state, But speaks like trash, and doesn't understand common phrases
@oxfordsbro Says:
As an African student who grew up in the UK and who could only attend university due to affirmative action I can say this is not true. I get higher grades than most my white counterparts, who got better grades in school and had attended private school and I am due to graduate with a first. US (and western) politics has taken such a backwards turn in the last few decades.
@terryw.monyhan5100 Says:
Universities just want bodies because bodies represent government dollars rolling in. In turn the universities produce leftist indoctrinated dummies to keep the government supplied with democrats.
@iamchillydogg Says:
I've never understood how some schools can be harder than others. I mean the information is the same isn't it? French is French no matter where you learn it.
@oxfordsbro Says:
Wow. What an awful piece of propaganda. Pretty sure the 'black guy' who saw this 'first hand' is AI generated.
@paulpowlison Says:
Did they use an a.i. black man for this? The guy is not moving his body at all and his cadence/tone is way too consistent.

@SARA0766 Says:
😂😂😂 oh please, just stop the bullshit
@JAGScar24 Says:
That's not entirely the case. Affirmative Action is a bad idea, don't get me wrong. The best candidates should be the ones to get those positions and/or slots in those colleges/universities. But what a lot of people don't understand is that Affirmative Action is there to give some people an opportunity that they probably would not have otherwise. Now, if those who were given those opportunities just blow it all away by going to the club, parties or other distractions that would keep them focusing on what they need to do, like possibly seeking a tutor or asking other classmates to help them understand the subject better, then that is on them. Some form of personal accountability need to take place. Affirmative Action is an opportunity, not an entitlement. Don't waste it.
@ChipChapChop Says:
OK

Thank you for bringing this to light! Yes I am an African American however I only want what I earned.

@MichaelEscobar-c3r Says:
no one cares about prager u lol
@mantasr Says:
Except they will try to solve this by not allowing professors to fail students and later not allowing employers to fire employees. Until we spiral all the way down in this Harison Bergeron equity spiral where everything eventually sucks.
@lod689 Says:
The entertainment industry is proving this theory over and over with one box office/streaming flop after another.
