The Brits have got half of world's treasures in their museums 😂😂
@inkcap1002 Says:
We're a nation of plunderers and pirates ..not giving anything back mate
@BKL-qp8lo Says:
Same with Indian
@victoriapapesh6892 Says:
Well my opinion is that the English person got permission from who was in charge of that area at the time to take those items so they were not stolen.....
They cannot be stolen when the guy got permission to take them.
It's totally up to England if they wish to give them to Greece as a gift.
@JohnHunter-n4v Says:
Yeah but Greece obviously aren’t the most quaint to protect these statues. So, it’d be reckless to give them back.
@jameshihihin1320 Says:
The UK is so backwards
@JM-us3fr Says:
I think it’s only fair to give it back to Greece, but let the British make an imitation statue first so they can satisfy their ego.
@qj0n Says:
Tbh, it was rather Ottomans, who stole it and sold to UK lord...
@galadballcrusher8182 Says:
I will put it simply for those Brits refusing to call it stealing. If Japan had asked Germany during WW2 to pass them a French national treasure and Germany did wouldn't they be entitled to ask back for it as they never gave permission to move it and the occupant Germany doing it is not legitimisation of the theft? Just cause Greece was occupied for 400 years and was among first of the occupied countries to revolt and gain their freedom does not hold water as legitimisation of the theft of the statues, regardless of Turk permission or not . Simple as that.
@p.d7375 Says:
If British paid for the state its rightfully their until the Greece purchase it back and make proper arrangements. If you say they stole then anyone will be pissed
@bigdmcgee101mikwilla7 Says:
No. they built an area for the statues at the parthenon in HOPES they would get them back. Wishful thinking if you ask me
@theotherguy6155 Says:
You said it yourself they were given. Just because that Empire doesn't exist anymore doesn't mean they weren't still a gift

Imagine you visit someone's house and they agree to give you their bookshelf. 10 years later, the former tenant moved back in and is now demanding you return the Bookshelf because it was his mother's.
@felicitynefdt9926 Says:
But they have so much from their former colonies- up to and including their crown jewels. That place should not be called the BRITISH museum!
@Honest_Opinion_Truly Says:

@dennisyoungblood7752 Says:
Wait, you just said the British Lord got permission from the Ottoman Empire who DID control Greece at the time, and then you turn right around and say they "stole" the statues? Sounds a little hypocritical, don't you think?
@isa-belva Says:
I did a whole argumentative paper on this for my Ancient Greek arts class. The main sources I had to read from explains how the Parthenon and the stolen sculptures are deteriorating over time, so transporting them would risk damage. Yeah, I buy that. I _also_ buy that technology have advanced in the past decades and _the_ British Museum would certainly figure out how to transport large sculptures while carefully maintaining their integrity. Return it.

Looks quite similar with Indian artefact in UK museum too.
UK does not have the personality of their own. Keeping shit from all around the world
@stephenmarcus9601 Says:
The British obtained permission, and is now one of the greatest museum hubs in the world. The UK has nothing to be ashamed about.
Greece was a fallen Empire and the British still limp along
@plasmarade Says:
Britain loves nothing more than imperialism 👍
@marianaa3583 Says:
Yes Chile 🇨🇱 called and they need their 🗿 back and they said NO. 😡
@PetarStamenkovic Says:
That is just not unbiased version at all. I agree that Brits should return it, but not because they stole it. But because Turks have no right to give something away that they conquered. Britain didn't steal it. They traded something that was at the time owned by the thief. We should be clear to communicate clearly.
@Gallacherboy Says:
Fact - they were stolen and not returned in modern day. If artefacts stolen from countries are in other countries possession, it must be returned as its apart of that countries historical heritage. Not choosing sides but Greece has the fullest right to ask for them back.
@SL11LOG Says:
Where they really stolen if he got permission from the ones in charge at the time??
@EstamosDe Says:
British politicians* not british people
@andimoraru5539 Says:
Well, British Museum is the best in the world because it houses biggest collection of stollen rare expensive things. Fact. It's not your culture, why hang to it?! Like If I would find a rare gold coin treasure buried at the base of Stonehenge and take it out of the country to give it to the Belgium National Museum. That would be a criminal offense. But not in UK because they were stollen... collected during the British Empire.

@alexcastillo8983 Says:
British has to steal relics from old cultures, because they don’t have an interesting history.
Just watch the only evidence of his past is Stonehenge!
And you have to be Stoned to find the interesting side of it!
@johannesvanderburgh Says:
Lol u cannot ask the british to give back these statues. Whats next? The royal treasury? 😂
@kishu3b Says:
we are also asking the same - give back our things that were stolen from India. British museum filled with Indian things stolen from us back in the colonial rule.
@hellothere44 Says:
- permission was given
- stolen
Pick one.
@thetravelingfoodshow Says:
If Greece wants them back they should go take them!😂
@pinheadlarry1327 Says:
I mean Britain isn’t exactly in the wrong, this is equivalent to Ukraine giving statues back to Russia
@jamesgreer323 Says:
If the British had to give back everything they stole they'd have nothing
@elijahfarley8149 Says:
You just said they got permission from the Ottoman Empire they didn’t steal them it was a gift they can’t be Indian givers
@benortiz7956 Says:
Literally says "they got permission" then proceeds to say "stolen" repeatedly... it's almost satirical
@abdulbari1013 Says:
Flash news: UK is guilty of stealing yet another country's artifacts and heritage.😂
Ironically the British prime minister is of Indian descent 😂
@yonatanshimels7729 Says:
Ethiopia have a prince's skeleton 🦴 and they won't give them.
@getoutim07 Says:
Disagree its stolen as Britain got permission from the Ottoman Empire
@TK-4044v Says:
Do they have anything that actually belongs to them in the british museum? Lol
@jylefranzcayabyab2982 Says:
British Museum has a lot of stuffs that doesn't belong there obviously 😂
@waughy9103 Says:
We didn't steal them. We had permission from the current owners.
@KazKolozak Says:
They should stay in England it is better for most artifacts to be in one se people only have to go to one place to see them
