It’s is crazy that this is not a known world history point amongst Americans. I have friends in grade school that were refugees. I worked with a family at a grocery store while I was in high school. The dad was a physician that ended up stocking fridges. The mother was a rocket scientist that work in the bakery. Their daughter worked there as well. We were the same age and friends. She told me their degrees were basically unusable in the US. I am by no means well versed on what requirements those careers would need when moving countries but when I asked I got the feeling it mostly came down to time and money. If they wanted to go back they would have to do extra schooling. Both parents had two minimum wage jobs as it was and their oldest was working full time after school to get by.

My first real-world deployment after joining the Army in 1997 was to the Tuzla region of Bosnia in 98-99. No fighting was going on at that point, but the images up close of a war-torn nation and the results of ethnic cleansing will remain in my memory for the rest of my life.
@seebarnes6588 Says:
Look very comfortable with that near his mouth...
@muhammadahmad1851 Says:
The only reason is the Bosnian are Muslim. Look at Palestine, Myanmar and many other places where Muslims are being prosecuted.
You'll get my point.

@hallitoff3883 Says:
The U.N. left anti-Moslem Dutch soldiers to protecct population of Srebrenica. Duh? The Dutch had lost their empire in Indonesia and were still smarting. There was/ is also a lot of anti-Moslem sentiment in the Netherlands. The long and short of it is we left a fox to guard the hen house. The results were to be expected.
@BTrain-is8ch Says:
The lesson is that at every single level operate as though the cavalry isn't coming and you are responsible for your own safety and well being. Things frequently work out poorly for the sorts of people who in a crisis sit around waiting for help rather than doing what they can to help themselves.
@MrHulkes Says:
Isn’t this happening now in Gaza?
@jenobene710 Says:
You guys do know US did this right?
@joshhallam2253 Says:
I'm an American and my drill sergeant said he deployed to Bosnia. Were Americans not there and he lied to us?
@PavUnq Says:
UN is the most useless money pit organization in the world
@yobamos2158 Says:
This is misleading. The UN did send troops and established multiple safe zones, they just weren't equipped to keep the safe zones safe and failed miserably
@fiji-h4x Says:
my dad fought in this war and he constantly talks about it, same with the rest of my family, always telling me how horrible it was and how the evil the serbs were
@KlausDieterLenz Says:
Lesson: You can't rely the peace of your nation to UN.
@81ibognar Says:
Vukovar? Manjača? No diss to BiH but that was the start. Croatia couldnt get weapons because of embargo. If it was stoped there, Bosnian war might not even happen
@Amine-wf8mh Says:
Swap Bosnia for Gaza and Rwanda and you got 2 ndw easy videos.. sad world
@Sean.Cordes Says:
I feel for Bosnia so much - I worked with Bosnians a lot throughout college and loved them so much. I learned from them about the war. Its a shame that the UN has abjectly failed Palestine as well - hasnt learned from its previous errors at all.
@justdiane5 Says:
What do you mean by saying that I never heard of that war? It was a big news story and I knew personally people who had family brutally attacked. Maybe I am a news junkie but I would hope that most people heard of the evil that occurred there
@vk789 Says:
why Ukraine??
@annoneemoose Says:
Another war where the US backed the wrong side.
@londienene4374 Says:
Seems we haven’t learned anything since then 😢
@luuk8684 Says:
Although... EVERYONE had heard about this war, right?
@EA-dweller Says:
Uhmm as a Rwandan born in 1990, the UN does not do things out of the blue. They get orders from NATO. The US actually threatened both France and the UN is they dared to intervene. They wanted it to happen to cause chaos in the region for easy access to Congolese minerals for the mobile phones that desperately need tantalum/coltan.
@davidabramyk2999 Says:
I was a little kid and I remember this on the news all the time. Was my first time hearing about war as something that still happens. Lost a bit of childhood innocence with it
@DesertlizzyThe Says:
Just like NOW! THE UN / ICC / ICJ DO NOTHING But Talk. They dont have the arsenol sent by members to help them (UN) stop conflict.
They may issue warrants for arrests but why does it stop there? Its a Big Fat Joke to even have the UN & all those 1948 Agreements etc. Dismantle the UN.
@MarieNimo Says:
Wait, so what are the lessons? It's 1:46 here I need it straight up spelled out clearly.
@Galaxydrill18 Says:
Bosnia is a artificial country

@rebeccaaldrich3396 Says:
Has the UN been able to stop the war in Ukraine? 😅
@efemie Says:
But what few did know was the Bosnia ethnic cleansing of Serbian in Bosnia, the reason for the conflict in the first place 🤐
@knarika.3239 Says:
The same way the UN stood by and watched the same thing happen to Armenians in Nagoro Karabakh, not once but 3 times in the last 30ish years. Until Azerbaijan and turkey archived their goal and completely ethnically cleansed that land and committed war crimes against humanity. This happened last year. The UN was nowhere to be found.
@ItzAndy25 Says:
You know its bad when NATO had to do the UN’s job.
@Hugo_Mali Says:
First of all, that war was so complicated that there's no way that you know anything about it unless you talked to hundreds of people all around Bosnia, including Bosniaks and Croats who live(d) in parts with Serbs as majority and Serbs who live(d) in parts where others were majority. You also have to know our history in order to grasp it. I'm Bosnian with mixed ancestry, who doesn't choose sides and who's pretty unbiased and all I can tell you is that people were brainwashed on all sides and fought each other for some idiots' interests and all sides were guilty.
Second, you are right that UN did nothing but when and where UN actually did something...
You have to scratch the surface a little bit!
