The thing about twitter and any other social media is that you're going to run into trolls. That's just the way of the Internet. Additionally, if you go looking for drivel, you're going to continually find it, especially stemming from "controversial" topics such as politics, religion, etc. If you stay away from these things, you can have a very plesant time online by connecting with people and talents that you respect. Personally, I would be devastated if anything happened to twitter because it's the only way I can connect with many of my favorite talents and musicians here in Japan (yes, we have our own fair share of trolls on the platform, but I feel it's a VERY different experience). For that reason alone, I would really hope people will stop saying "just burn it to the ground" because I feel it's very narrow minded. Yes, get rid of the drivel and the trolls, but leave the rest.

The signal to noise ratio on Twitter is horrible. However, a new text platform has not emerged; Mastadon and Post are contenders but don't have the market hold that Twitter has. For immediacy and crowd-sourced news/information/resources, Twitter still holds an important role in global communication opportunities.
