"An Idaho bill aimed at providing students with free feminine hygiene products in school failed on Monday after Republicans slammed the prospect as 'woke' and 'liberal.'
The one-page House Bill 313, introduced on March 13, would have required that public and public charter schools provide students with free tampons, sanitary napkins and other menstrual products.
Dissenting Republicans decried the bill as 'woke' and overly generous.
'This bill is a very liberal policy, and it's really turning Idaho into a bigger nanny state than ever,' said state Rep. Heather Scott, according to The Daily Beast. 'It's embarrassing not only because of the topic but because of the actual policy itself. So you don't have to be a woman to understand the absurdity of this policy. And you don't have to feel that you're insensitive to not address this.'

He's more thoughtful to girls biological functions. It wouldn't even just be for those who parents cannot afford them. I'm sure every women can share a story about randomly getting their period early or not and not being prepared with pads or tampons with them, whether at school, work, somewhere not at home.

Adolescent periods are notoriously irregular. I rarely knew when mine was coming. My period was also highly variable as far as the amount of flow. Providing feminine products is a no brained. What are these legislators thinking?

This is obviously cruel, which is just another day at the office for conservatives, but I don’t honestly see this lasting long. Conservatives, and especially fundamentalist Christian conservatives are so squeamish and medieval about anything having to do with women’s bodies that as soon as they see what happens when you don’t use feminine products during menstruation. They’re gonna end up spending far more money to reverse the effects of this policy. They would be off just not doing anything.

If I lived in Idaho I would organize a campaign with everyone I knew to go out and purchase tampons and pads and give them to the school nurses. I think all schools across the country should have free access to these in school and not just for those who can't afford them but for those who don't realize they're about to start their period.

As a boy, I would have wanted girls to have tampons available for free in case of emergency.
If you forgot one, or whatever shortage is the reason would qualify as emergency need. No hassle.
Sometimes the machines in the bathrooms would run out, get vandalized, or forgotten, so maybe next to the free condoms in the nurse's station would be better...
The alternative is a bloody mess which creates an unsanitary environment for everyone.

When I was a teenager, back in the mid 70s, I was totally amazed by my dad. He knew exactly which box of items to buy for each of us. I asked him once if it ever bothered or embarrassed him to buy tampons and pads? His response was classic my dad: why would I be embarrassed?? Everyone knows they aren't for me!!

As for me, it's never bothered me to talk about it. I wasn't shoveling stuff into anyone's face, but I'd answer questions if asked. Everyone knows that everyone pees and poops. Everyone should know that those with a uterus have periods. It's no different.
