Stanford Offering a Course on ONE Taylor Swift Song

????

Stanford has dedicated an entire course to one Taylor Swift song. Ana Kasparian and Rm Brown discuss on The Young Turks. Watch TYT LIVE on weekdays 6-8 pm ET. http://youtube.com/theyoungturks/live Read more HERE: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/stanford-offer-course-exclusively-study-154521316.html "Fans have been digging deep into the song lyrics of Taylor Swift for most of her career, looking for hidden meanings and real-world relevancy. Now, a select group will be able to do so for college credit at one of the top-ranked schools in the country. Stanford University, in its winter 2023 quarter, will offer a course called 'All Too Well (Ten Week Version),' an 'in-depth' analysis of Swift's 2012 song, which the artist rereleased last year in a 10-minute-long version. While skeptics might roll their eyes at such a pop-culture focused class, Swift's music has become more and more common in college classrooms in recent years. Last year, for instance, the University of Texas, Austin offered 'The Taylor Swift Songbook,' an honors undergraduate class that studied Swift's lyrics in comparison to great literature. Canada's Queen's University, meanwhile, offers "Taylor Swift's Literary Legacy" in its Cultural Studies program." *** The largest online progressive news show in the world. Stanford has one bureaucrat for every two students. Why don't they make double dorms fitted for three so that the bureaucrats can be in their lives 24/7.
@TracyInsomiac Says:
This is not about the song. It’s about how to construct media. If I. Spent 10 weeks at TYT, I’d learn about technology, journalism, business, accounting, lighting & camera work, editing, social media rules, marketing, sponsorship, fact checking, and everything that goes into how to make a show like TYT. Here we have as similar situation. How the music was constructed. How was the concept created. The lyrics lyrics, the recording, the editing, the marketing,, the filming….

@pheonix2284 Says:
Honestly, I would love to take that course. All To Well is one of Taylor’s most popular songs if not THE most popular song. There’s so much to analyze from it because it means so many different things for every person. It would be a fantastic fine arts credit which I would take!
@orangecat5909 Says:
Rigth said fred. I'm to sexy for this school. Would've been a great course.
@robertramirez7990 Says:
Isn't Stanford a private school? Fuck it, let them spend their dough on it.

Oh good grief. My definition of an anaphrodisiac: listening to or looking at Taylor Swift for more than 2.5 minutes- seriously, my brain tissue, penis, and will to live, shrinks ever-so-slightly whenever I see or hear her.

Ana your basicness is showing

It’s crazy that people are against student loan debt forgiveness. Look at all the important things people learn in college.

You don't have to spend that kind of money to get break downs of the songs andsee how songs are composed etc. Just watch Rick Beato videos on YouTube!

@prometheanrebel Says:
It seems to me to be more about teaching storytelling, music comppsition, analysis etc and they just used a Swifty song as the vehicle to do it.

If you're a grown man and you have a working knowledge of Taylor Swift songs, there's no place in the world, for your opinions on anything.

I think classes like these exist so that students have easier options when choosing what they're going to take for their elective hours.

@jsimon Says:
I don't mind R.M. but why does he have this inability to look at the camera? TYT PRODUCERS, GET ON IT.
@greengeezer5069 Says:
In college, I had to analyze Nas's Illmatic album, and I'm pretty sure you all wouldn't bash that, given your constant pandering. Either way, it's pretty silly.
@roberte.6892 Says:
No federal money should be allowed to fund tuition for this.
@adamsimon8220 Says:
Someone who is an undergrad is teaching the course. Not a professor. Great teaching experience, but I couldn’t imagine it’s graded. I’d like to see the syllabus though. It’d be interesting to see how you can squeeze 10 weeks worth of course time out of 10 mins of music. I think everyone should be able to look it up on Stanford’s course catalog in case they’re interested.

The way I knew it was all too well before watching the video

@EastSide-qc5oy Says:
This is nothing new. Universities have for years offered a few niche humanities courses using pop culture subjects as focal points. There have been humanities courses looking at The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, and on and on. Sometimes entire sub genres of music. Often the survey of the music goes hand in hand with looking at whatever else is going on in the world and how the artists’ output reflects on the times or vice versa. Usually students have writing assignments that force them to apply the same kind of analyzing skills they would use in a literature course. It’s less about the topic and more about how the student employs certain skills. No one would be forced to take the class and it would probably fulfill some elective credits.

@tayloriginals999 Says:
They used to have courses on American Pie by Don McLean as well as The Beatles songs. Back then though, college wasn't so expensive.
@tenorak Says:
As a musicologist, it somewhat annoys me that this is what people think we do and teach. To be clear, the professor of this course is not a musicologist. Just sayin.
@UndertheNeedle282 Says:
If people want to pay for something that stupid have at it. As long as it's an elective that doesn't go toward any degree then idc.
@ubereats3048 Says:
This is why their shouldn't be free college.

@gregscott989 Says:
Talk about boring...I cannot remember a single lyric or melody from any TS I have ever heard. I can't believe that listening to 1 minute of one of her songs for a week would not be the greatest sleeping pill ever devised.

I think I'd rather study Billie Eilish's "Bellyache"
