I advocate that we all have a one day work week and get the same money as if we worked five. Clearly employers have lots of extra money laying around, so they can afford to make charitable donations to their employees. If you are in favor of a 32 hour work week, you should be even more in favor of an 8 hour work week. Imagine how much better and happier our lives would be if we only worked one day a week?

Lol I do 6 - 12 hours shifts but 4-10s or 3-12s are much better and maybe an extra 12 at the end of the month to make up for some of the lost time!

A lot of people didn't listen to the video (I am not shocked, no one will read this anyways). Cutting down to 4 days isn't 4 ten hour days, they said thirty two hours per week. That's still doing your normal 8 hour job 4 times a week and still getting paid as if you were working 40 hours. My company did the opposite, instead of paying us more we now work mostly 6 days a week 8 hours a day. I suspect it's to avoid doing a pay increase and getting more production out per worker. Not only am I burned out, but they also cut all music globally because of an accident, making the day drag. I do not expect to retire from there unless it gets significantly less toxic, but corporations here in the US do not see employees as anything more than meat machines.
It's going to be a hard sell here in the US from the amazing amount of stupid people. They're going to take one look at the title and draw their own judgements from it, or if they do take the time to look into the studies will think of ways to cut benefits and continue to screw over workers. They already have this misconception that people are lazy when we're so horribly overworked and are devising more ways to force people into toxic work environments.

They offered us a 4 day work week but it would have been 4 ten-hour days. Almost no one wanted to do it.
The closest I've been to that is a 2-2 3-2 2-3 rotating shift schedule which I really liked because you only ever work 3 consecutive days in a row. So it feels like you're never too far from a mental break.
The traditional Mon through Friday 8-5 schedule sucks. We generally deal with it because it's the most common option.

Retail is a huge part of the world. You can’t reduce retail hours if you’ll lose money. If you reduce work days you have to hire more employees meaning to cover the same amount of hires meaning you’ll have to pay them all less to still profit similarly. So unless everyone wants to to take a frantic pay cut then this can’t work

The company I worked for had everyone work from home for two years during the pandemic. When we reopened, the company allowed everyone to work from home for whichever two days they pick as long as everyone is in the office on Wednesdays.
This is so wonderful. Even though I work 5 days a week I now have my whole weekend to relax, rest, see friends etc, because the chores I used to do on weekends (shopping for the week, laundry, cleaning, etc) I can now do on the days I work from home, during time I would normally would have spent commuting or chatting with co-workers. We all love it. The boss doesn’t care - he’s been working from home whenever he wants for many years.

Most Americans work 8-10 (tbh) hours a day (a lot even more than that sadly) and then go home and have maybe 4 hours to themselves which includes getting ready for the next day. This is not life. Americans are overworked and underpaid. They’re burnt out, stressed, and mentally and physically unhealthy. A 5 day work week is like freaking jail. It’s beyond antiquated and just insane, honestly. Not to mention everything else you need to get done outside of work that is not for pleasure. It’s sad and pathetic. It should be even shorter than a 4 day work week, honestly. And also: if workers can work remote, LET THEM. Stop forcing people into the office for no reason other than control. It’s been proven workers and employers benefit big time from working remote as well, for so many reasons. It’s all total bullshit.

The company I work for tried it but they let us work 12 hour shift. So for me it was a hard doing them 12 hour shift smh. I wish we could do 4 day but stick to 8 hour shift.

Ana you're right about that archaic work ethic. The traditional work ethic mindset that our great grandparents and grandparents lived through, still exist in our society. Even ppl in my age group 40+, think this way too. It's so exhausting to convince them that 4day work weeks are superior. I haven't worked on a Friday since 2011 and my quality of life is amazing!

Four-day work week was implemented in the sixties and phased out in the early 70's. They did 10-12 hour work days. Problem is the department of Labor found out that the majority of accidents that happened at work happened after the 8th hour on the job.
You can't get companies to pay you your worth per hour as it is it's not like they are going to pay you more to do less work, for them it's all about that $$$.

I would never want to do the 4 day work week. Not if i was still at my old job. Used to work overtime long hours, it killed me cause the job was too physical. I was in pain standing for long hours. Messes up my back and have nerve issues. No thank you. Not worth it.
