SMH activists are more times than not just performative. It makes me cringe to see them grand stand for their "cause", while my fellow engineers, researchers and other STEM are actually making a difference. If these "activists" really wanted to change society for the better in the way that they wanted, they should have become STEM-workers themselves and actually go into the field (or at least help finance the STEM-folk, who are), where their activity actually would make a difference in the direction of their choice:
- vegan activists could go into plant-based biotechnology to help cheapen the cost of producing plant-based meat-substitutes, while raising the quality of the products.
- climate activists could go into (combustion) chemistry or mechanics to help develope cheaper methods for producing cars with zero emission or help promote non-emitting electricity factories.
These are just some examples that they could do, but instead of developing the change that they want, the "activists" are more concerned with grandstanding and being a nuiscences to the rest of society.
