I seem to remember countless unsubstantiated lies told by so-called conservatives from the 45th President on down. Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly uttered a ton of nonsense, and thrown in some misspellings. It looks to me like speech is pretty free. Also, Dennis--the "FIRST TIME"?? Here's a non-exhaustive list of prior examples:
There were the Alien-Sedition Acts, late 18th century, prohibited writing "false or scandalous" material about the Government and its officials.
The Comstock laws in the 1800s censored correspondence and mail about porn, abortion, sex toys, mentioning of sex.
Senator McCarthy in the 40s and 50s blacklisted people and ruined careers by policing speech/thought.
And let's not leave out the entire period the United States was a slaveholding country, which involved mass suppression/control of speech based on skin color.

Trust the money to be money, trust land use to not change so fast you can't build what you planned, trust the water, ...
It doesn't require everything to be *locked* to the holy status quo, but it aims to do *sensible things* that have been tested to be better. And eliminate known problematic things.

I've been saying this for years. When someone brings it up, I find myself saying that American conservatism is about conserving the ideals of the freedoms in The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution, the most liberal government-organizing documents in known history. They wish to conserve the power of the individual in the government.
Meanwhile, those who are calling themselves "liberal" are seeking a liberal application of government in all areas. They are not seeking to have people be free from constraints, which is the definition they seek to cloak themselves by taking on this title.

There isn't a coherent answer because we give conservatism too secular a meaning. Conservatism is fundamentally tied with religion, more specifically Christianity (most specifically, Catholicism, but I'm really not wanting to argue too much about which is most right). It is to conserve the truth, good, and beauty of our God-given human nature in the face of a changing world. It is to promote the moral and religious norms that make society good. With this explanation, an example of an actually conservative policy would be an outright ban on pornography, abortion, and even contraception (preservation of the family). Fundamentally, in the context of today's world, I think conservatism needs to start meaning going back to Christendom. Christendom died, and we let it happen (more specifically the greatest generation did. they gave us contraception and roe v. wade and allowed the sexual revolution to happen).

I think the things conservatives want to conserve is their own interests. Damn shame, too. It didn't used to be that way. You could count on Constitutionalists to have your back whatever you wanted to say. But most conservatives aren't interested in the Constitution these days.

Freedom and liberty. Liberty is that I can I do what I want but I choose not to offend, which falls within a moral standard. Freedom means I can make personal choices without government interference or oppression/ suppression.
It's generally understood through generations that opportunity is an American trait. It's up to the individual what they make of it.
Having said all that, in terms of real faith, that exists regardless of what the leaders do or the threat is. The advantages of having more moral people are obvious.
I think youth often misunderstands freedom, particularly in tolerance and self determination. Entitlement and forced acceptance along with collectivism skews their world view. When the older generations are gone, the kids only know what they have been taught, and it's not going to be tolerance for traditional views. They can't debate an idea rationally as previous gens did, so the hate is intolerant and demands silence. It gets personal and juvenile rather than objective. No challenges.
