When our contract came up they were trying to pay us nothing. Basically no raise. The union fought for higher wages. Without the union doing that we would all be homeless in this economy when they wanted max pay to be $17 for some semi-hard labor. I barely get by on $25 I make now. Point is that not all unions are bad. Is he overpaid? Yeah. Thing is, since the pandemic, getting a quality workforce has turned into nearly impossible. For every 10 people we bring in the door, 7 of those are gone in the first month. That is even paying them at rates that is truly insane from even a few years ago. Fact is they are making more off government money than actually working. When they do work, they have no desire to do the actual work. "It's too hard". Some places (including where I'm at) is promoting automation. Also, as someone who was in the affected area of the hurricane (but being in a small town on top of a mountain helped), the feds don't care about us. It is Trump territory. We are the ones that the feds said are "up in the hills training to attack". The supply chain is basically gone. For these unions to strike (and the Biden folks support) at this time, has made it even worse. They don't care about "Americans". They are ok with making us suffer over their greed.
