This Helene may have beaten that record. Camille in the 60's, others in the 70's and since. Heck, if it wasn't for tropical weather, the southeaast would be arid like texas. These storms are a part of life in the region. Its still sad to see lives washed away. I remember that storm as it affected many areas near me in NJ but similarly to the Asheville storm the mountains funneled the water to devastating power.
