Biden's track record, consisting of caring for people in debt, caring about infrastructure, caring lowering drugs costs and doing what he can to move slowly toward affordable care for people, pulling out of Afghanistan, more than offsets any of the examples of selfishness. Not to mention that his claim to running against Trump was for the reason of "defeating Trump"- they guy studies data points with advisors and determines Kamala has the shot this time- puts his ego away again, gets out of his way, and gives her the free-reign to do so. Everyone will look back at his pull out of Afghanistan as positive and necessary eventually, but Look at the flack he got for doing so. Biden did not put his ego first, he put the country first, when possible. All president's have been lining their pockets, to some degree. At least we got back public service from him. Who of us could even understand the pressures a president faces. I am very happy about this win, but I don't think I am that surprised. If Kamala can keep his priorities going, but add energy, we are going in the right direction. I am confident the house flips- if democrats can hold onto the senate, I think we could see the eradication of Trumpism and 8 years of a blossoming party of Democrats- with more attenuation to universal health care and the legislative steps forward that need to be made to achieve what we need here, so hopefully we see more of these wins. It's not fair to the taxpayers to allow an unreasonable sum of money to be transferred to these pharmaceutical companies. Of course, in practice, this doesn't really work, and price controls for prescription drugs, especially those funded by government programs, are entirely appropriate. If rules were set where maximum prices were based on R&D costs (even tangential ones), which had to be documented perhaps we could end up with prices that are not exorbitant but which don't stifle innovation. And perhaps some way to limit financial liability when rules are properly followed, so long as misrepresentation and falsification of data didn't occur. Ideally having a system where R&D could be conducted by nonprofits/universities/government labs more often such that medications didn't need to be patented would also be great. Manufacturers and marketers (private sector) could then assume liability for any risks and harms that result, and price their products accordingly, in a competitive marketplace (some medications could be made by public/nonprofit entities too, if warranted by circumstances).
