There is no transfection by proximity or air. For most people it is relatively harmless apart from scarring. Older people who were vaccinated against smallpox in the 50.ies or 60-ies can expect some protection from it against mpox. Deaths and complications usually occur in unhealthy or significantly weakened individuals. It is therefore rather difficult to contract this disease and it should be able to be contained with public awareness and simple measures of isolating sick individuals during the brief period when they are infectious which is obvious through the serious skin symptoms. Therefore, I do not expect significant spillout of this disease into stable countries outside central Africa. There will be isolated small outbreaks driven by war and sexual contact under drug influence. While a vaccine may help containing the African outbreak it is not essential.
