The small business owners have to pay the full wage of Canadians and only part of the wages for any new comers. It's putting more money in the pocket of the small business owner to hire them. There is very little work here to begin with and now we have a huge housing crises to boot. Many are working for cash or are bartering services. Many others are self-employed in the gig economy that does not count as wage employment. Small business and sole proprietorships are highly competitive, but are not “employment.” Canadians are not willing to do certain work, like seasonal crop harvesting, cleaning, or other tough jobs. TFW fill that gap. But now foreigners are breaking into the trades, like welding. They are willing to work for peanuts, don’t necessarily have the skills or experience that qualified Canadians have, and hire out as a full crew. They cut qualified, ticketed Canadians out of the market. Roofing and framing are also good examples. Government looks the other way. QA/QC doesn’t matter, and they won’t be held accountable when their work fails. I find it ironic that the businesses or franchises owned by East Indians are the ones most likely to use the temporary foreign workers program instead of hiring Canadians. My 18 yr old son was let go from his job at McDonald's because they supposedly had no hours. In addition to that some recruiters in another nation will groom a person who living in another nation online whom they know are talented and educated without credentials on paper for the position which they want to hire the person for so they can pay them less. Like when hockey player Wayne Gretzky felt coersed into moving away from Canada to the U.S.A.
