LRT expansion has taken over 40 years in Calgary. The problem is that politicians like Gondek want to have the whole line built and opened up at once. I have lived in Calgary for well over 50 years. We started with Anderson and a handful of stations to downtown in 1981. We need to slow down, manage costs and hold contractors accountable for quotations. Build the rail system one station at a time and over a series of many years we can get it all built up.

I used to ride the C-Train every day. Got more and more crowded. Prices went up. Expansion to new neighborhoods was painfully slow. Visitors were perplexed that there was no route to the airport. Then the losers, druggies and low-lifes took over. Sprawled all over the seats, which were never cleaned. Spit and snot wiped on the windows. Loud, obnoxious music at all hours. You took your life in your hands travelling at night. Didn’t see a City cop or transit cop for a year. Nobody checked tickets or passes. Nope. Started driving downtown and paying for parking. More expensive, but much more pleasant and much safer. Another City of Calgary disaster.

Calgary is a joke, this city has no idea how to build a transit system... Almost all major cities globally have TRAINS UNDERGROUND!!! What happens to 7th avenue in the downtown when you add even more trains, it will be a gong show!! You cannot have trains stopping at traffic lights, able to be in accidents with vehicles, subject to weather problems etc etc.....this entire LRT system is a giant waste of money.... Moreover, the LRT cost to use should be based on distance, so the extreme south riders should be paying $5 for a one way trip, and folks coming in from Kensington should be paying $0.50 for a one way trip (and get rid of the free fare zone)....every other major city does this, so what the heck is wrong with Calgary? Lastly, these trains should be for CALGARIANS, so if those driving in from Okotoks or Cochrane etc to use the train, their fares should be 50% higher because they DO NOT pay taxes which is funding these idiotic train lines. What the heck is wrong with the these people!!

The city has an out. The corridors for this rail line are all in place. We could choose to pave these corridors put in necessary stations like they planned and run rapid transit buses. The savings will be huge people will be moved, just as well as trains. You could even widen this roadway enough to incorporate a bike lane all the way it travels “two birds with one stone.” This would also allow for buses to go east west without having to build new corridors for trains. There is a solution.

It's like the stupidity of the TTC...spending hundreds of millions of dollars, to refurbish the downtown Toronto Queen Street street car line, even though it hasn't been used in decafes... the TTC gives reason that "We've got to use up our budget, less we lose that funding!"
