Nevertheless, China is expected to grow 5.0% this year and 4.5% next year. Compare this to USA's 2.6% this year and 1.9% next year. Rather Capitalism keeps them in poverty. The top 1% in America own more than the whole middle class combined. Yes he has been terrible for the economy but Xi was chosen to his position because he wouldn’t return down the path of Mao, his political opponent at the time was a Maoist. So I don’t think it is fair to characterize Xi as taking China back to the economy of Mao because he isn’t. No Chinese leader would dare do that, they would not be able to rise in the party with that strategy. Xi Jinping is more of a believer in centrally planned development economics (as seen with the Belt and Roads initiative). The only reason he is harsh to criticism (which I disagree with) is because he is very conscious of national security compared to his predecessors. As much as I'm a libertarian for Canadian politics, i cant ignore the fact that had China practiced western liberal democracy, they would've been another India.>>
