ARE YOU REALLY PROGRESSIVES? OR JUST PHONY VIRTUE-SIGNALING JEW HATERS? I share all of your stated values: anti-war, tax the rich, pro-worker, universal health care, pro-women, pro-LGBTQ, etc., and a genuine concern for innocent victim of oppression and war. I agree that Israel is an imperfect democracy, Netanyahu is a narcissist with authoritarian tendencies who has supported an illegal, harmful (for Palestinians) and counter-productive (for Jews) extremist settler movement in the West Bank. Yes, in Israelās response to the October 7 massacre by Hamas, many innocent Gazans have been killed, something that should not have happened. Yes, a two-state solution to the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict, is ultimately the best chance for lasting peace in the region, and Israel needs to do its part to make that happen. So, thereforeā¦Letās side with Hamas? I wonder, if you were to stop spreading lies about Jews and Israel, youād risk losing much of your audience, wouldnāt you? Less revenue. Kind of like the corporate media you rail against. For years independent voices like yours have railed against the mainstream media for its biased, corporate slant on the news, and present themselves as the brave, truth-telling alternative. Much of the time I have agreed. But not this time. Not on this issue. Either you have a poor knowledge of history and youāve been played, in which case shame on you for reporting on matters you know little about; or maybe you just donāt care as much about Jews as other oppressed people. Sure, Netanyahu is a right-wing hawk, but Hamas is a Nazi organization of Jew-hating thugs who seek to annihilate Israel, and couldnāt care less about their own people. Hamas is not āresistingā any āoccupationā by Israel. It is Hamas that threw more moderate Fatah members off rooftops when Israel turned over Gaza to the Palestinians 18 years ago, and it has been their relentless terrorist campaign against Israel for all those years that has led Israel to impose an embargo. Hamas could have ended the embargo long ago by agreeing not to seek the destruction of the Jewish state. The claim that the mainstream media is biased towards Israel is absurd. Any news organization that seeks to report the news dispassionately and objectively would report on the behavior of both sides. That is not the case. Not long abo, for example, Israeli officials are being grilled about the size of the Hamas presence under a hospital (is it REALLY a ācommand and controlā center?), when IDF soldiers have already been shown standing outside a tunnel next to the hospital and Amnesty International years ago reported that Hamas uses schools and hospitals from which to launch missiles at Israel, and they are grilled about what more Israel can do to minimize civilian casualties. In asking only these questions, the media is taking sides, implying that Israel is responsible for the carnage. It was Hamas who started the war, Hamas that has waged a genocidal war against Jews, Hamas whose charter explicitly calls for the elimination of all Jews, Hamas that treats its own people as human shields and keeps them in poverty. As long as Israel does not deliberately target civilians, it is in accordance with international law. Instead of daily headlines about what Israel is doing wrong, how about these headlines: Hamas continues to use innocent civilians as human shields. Hamas has only released a handful of hostages, more than a month after its initial massacre of Israeli civilians. Hamas hijacks aid trucks and blames the IDF Egypt will not allow Palestinians refugees into the Sinai. Arab countries are not providing needed humanitarian aid to Gaza. Hamas continues to send missiles into Israel, targeting civilians. South Africa loses bogus genocide case against Israel More young Israeli soldiers died in active combat Hamas refuses to surrender. United Nations fails to demand Hamas surrender. Arab nations fail to demand Hamas surrender. Hamas siphoning off fuel from hospitals to wage war on Israel. U.A.R. still only one of the few Arab countries to denounce Hamas. Are Arabs and Palestinian people not members of the human race, to be held accountable for their behaviors? Or are they just like children, forever blameless and innocent? Hamas needs to release the hostages, and stop sending missiles that have killed innocent Israeli civilians, disarm completely, and surrender to Israel. Until that happens, Israel should continue to avoid, as much as possible, hitting civilians in its air strikes; however, when Gazans are killed, it is 100% the fault of Hamas. Why are you continually demanding that Israel engage in a cease-fire, rather than Hamas? Israelās primary responsibility is to the safety of its own people, not the safety of the Palestinians. So far, neither the extremist Islamic factions, nor the so-called āmoderateā factions representing the Palestinian people have agreed to a two-state solution, neither in 2000 nor in 2008. And everywhere from Palestine one hears, āFrom the river to the seaā¦ā The extremists at least are honest about their goal, which is the total annihilation of Israel, whereas the Fatah āmoderatesā who pretend to agree to a two-state solution have consistently insisted on the return to Israel proper of a million descendants of Palestinians displaced during the 1948 war of independence ā something that would essentially end Israel as Jewish state. To sum up: The Palestinian leadership, and the surrounding Arab states, have failed the Palestinian people, over and over again. Stop blaming Israel! The rise of the right wing in Israel, admittedly extremist and counterproductive to a two-state solution, only happened after 100 years of relentless attacks by Arabs on the Jewish people, and the failure of the Palestinian leadership to accept a territorial compromise.
