Regarding blacklisting in Hollywood, it was something that was done more many years ago and was during a time when those in the industry had more communication between each other. When someone was blacklisted, word of it quickly spread throughout the industry and essentially permanently denied any work in the industry. Later on the use of this somewhat lost it's teeth, with a number of actors who were blacklisted for substance abuse but later became clean and appear/star in a number of successful films. Another reason why this has lost it's teeth is due to many people breaking away from a number of these companies and producing/directing their own stuff which people loved. There's also the fact that films such as Clerks and Mallrats don't require a big budget nor famous actors to make a successful film.
