I have seen what a range fire can do with high winds. Cleaning the forest would and Harvesting the trees. California used to Harvest the trees and sale them. That makes more sense. In the 1970s, the AQMD complained that controlled burns that the US Forest Service performed were creating more smog. Then, the US Forest Service budget was cut. So, for twenty years, the controlled burns were no longer performed like they normally would. Now people complain about wildfires causing poor air quality.
