And also the antartic is protected by a treatment sing in octuber 15 1959 by many countrys: On December 1, 1959, the twelve countries that had carried out scientific activities in Antarctica and its surroundings during the International Geophysical Year (IGI) of 1957-1958 signed the Antarctic Treaty in Washington. The Treaty entered into force in 1961 and has been accepted by many other nations. There are currently 56 Parties to the Treaty. Some important provisions of the Treaty are: Antarctica will be used exclusively for peaceful purposes (Art. I). The freedom of scientific research in Antarctica and cooperation towards that end [...] will continue (Art. II). The Contracting Parties agree to proceed [...] to the exchange of observations of scientific results on Antarctica, which will be freely available (Art. III). Among the signatories of the Treaty there are seven countries (Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Norway, New Zealand and the United Kingdom) with territorial claims, which in some cases coincide in part. Other countries do not recognize any claims. The United States and Russia consider that they have "grounds to claim." All these positions are explicitly provided for in Article IV, which maintains the status quo: No act or activity that is carried out while this Treaty is in force will constitute a basis for asserting, supporting or denying a claim of territorial sovereignty in Antarctica, or for creating sovereignty rights in this region. No new claims of territorial sovereignty in Antarctica will be made, nor will the claims previously asserted be extended, while this Treaty is in force. In order to promote the objectives and ensure compliance with the provisions of the Treaty, "all regions of Antarctica, and all stations, facilities and equipment that are there [...] will be open at all times for inspection" (Art.
