Her dance sequence was only ok. America was fantastic and far more dynamic. Ryan was great AND the writing for Ken was simply way better and engaging, Greta has admitted to writing so much more for him and they pictured Ryan the whole time. His dance sequence and singing was fantastic. The technical stuff like art direction, I think, is far more worthy of an award-the film making was great, retro and innovative. It was nominated for Best Picture, but not Best Director. Jaws was nominated for Best Director, but Spielberg didn't get a Direction nomination. Same thing happened to him again when The Color Purple ('85) was nominated for 11 Academy Awards. Taxi Diver earned a Best Picture nod, but Martin Scorsese wasn't nominated for director.
