I just recently went through this with my daughter's bank. CITIZENS COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION. Although I'm for regulation.>> <<@metrotcb9560 says : Never had an overdraft fee, never, know my accounts to the penny. Americans need to stop buying McDonald's, Star bucks and so many>> <<@yosimply353 says : Biden and all democrats should watch on this, because Republicans will be ready to impeach . To republicans and traitors this is against their donors: the super rich.>> <<@emperorgizmo3014 says : Banks should not even be able to allow to charge you overdraft fees at all. Overdraft fees simply should never have existed in the first place. If you go over your account limit guess what then the card should always come back declined and it should say not enough funds in the account. If you want to buy something that you can't afford it should decline you. That's how it should work that's how it should have always worked and banks should never have been able to charge you overdraft fees to begin with. If you want to go over your amount that you have in your account then you should have something like a credit card or something to that effect. But as for debit cards they should work like this and they should have always worked like this.>> <<@DellikkilleD says : not even 'that day' they will hold checks for weeks and as soon as *that* check would ding you, they clear it, and then ding you for *every* transaction you made in the weeks between. Chase is particularly vile about this shit.>> <<@ModelCitizen543 says : Crazy… he said $2 coffee and $8 McDonald meal.>> <<@lukenester8157 says : So, while i agree about the fees needing to be addressed, the statements about reordering how charges post is completely false. Charges on debit cards will post based on the time the merchant that charge was done with finalizes it. When you use your card, that merchant gets an authorization good for exactly 3 days, and it is up to them when during that period they finalize that charge. The financial institution where your account is does not make that determination. Otherwise, yes, the fees do need to have limits absolutely but facts are facts.>> <<@thecocomuzulozovidz1085 says : As a former commercial lending assistant. This is another area that the rich come out ahead, all of our commercial customer (their business and personal accounts) usually are set up with auto reversal of overdraft fees. So if they overdraw their account and get hit with a OD fee, they are automatically reimbursed those fees.>> <<@xavierjackson6779 says : Crazy idea, but people could just check their bank accounts before spending money>> <<@DavidSmith-eg5le says : I think another occupy like in 2011 if the gop blocks Biden from doing it>> <<@chenango303 says : There's a solution... Let's talk about that. There's many banks out there that don't charge overdraft fees and instead give you the opportunity to tip( completely optional) for helping you out. We work our asses off to receive a paycheck, only to look at what’s coming out our paychecks in taxes is robbery, and they call it legal! This whole system needs to be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up!!! Taxed all over the place!!!!>> <<@w.rowechmura8414 says : TD bank lost a class action suit like this. They would allow different purchases, and then intentionally charge the larger dollar amounts first to take the customer into overdraft and then charge the smaller amounts. Scumbags.>> <<@ClifftonCrowder-yt2gt says : Not only did many banks charge a 30$+ overdraft fee per transaction but every three days after there was an additional 10$+ add on to that charge. NSF's are a different matter because the charges are government related because of swift. But, the big thing is different systems banks use. Some use merchant clear transactions others are same day hold transactions. We need a law to have banks use the same day transaction system because when we pay with cash its same day.>> <<@winesap2 says : Overdraft fees are such a scam. It’s just theft. And you have to love when they call it a “courtesy” fee. It would be different if people kept a negative balance for months or years, but not minutes or a few days. And it should never be higher than the balance.>> <<@DraconicWraithXIII says : Why do we need more laws about this? Just turn on overdraft protection, and you will never get them. By overdraft protection I mean they don't authorize a charge that would overdraft you.>> <<@ellyaragonn says : If banks are depending on overdraft fees then their lending practices suck, and maybe other things in their financial institutions. #creditunionsarebetter>> <<@ellyaragonn says : And if you cant pay they close your account and now you get reported to checksystems and you won't be able to open an acct anywhere.>> <<@michaeldees6599 says : I have overdraft protection. If I go over the funds are drawn from my line of credit or savings account. Haven't had an overdraft fee in 25 years. Of course... I only use credit unions. Banks exist to fuck you over.>> <<@huether720 says : one of my 1st bank accounts, in 1996 was with bank of america. this same thing happened to me, i accidentally overdrew my account by less than $1. i was hit with 2 overdraft fees for $35 each. isn't it crazy that back then you could have multiple purchases for under $1 😂 anyhow i went into the bank and put on my absolute best best defense. it didn't help at all. i about 20 years old and decided at that moment that, if this is how banks work, i'm definitely not playing that game. i went over 20 years without banking. this has been going on for nearly or more than 30 years>> <<@rebeccafernandez2936 says : My bank charges $34, and then they dont even cover it. They deny the charge and still charge the $34.>> <<@danielch6662 says : In our country, we don't have overdraft fees. We have penalties. Banks don't just do whatever they want. The rules are set by the central bank and effective at all banks. Everybody is responsible for managing their own accounts and ensuring that it doesn't go into overdraft. Cheque clearing times are regulated. If you are too stupid to know how much you have available, then you don't get a checking account. $100 if your account goes into overdraft. The amount doesn't matter whether it be 1 cent or $1 million. Do it 3 times within one year, and your accounts are closed for a year. Not just that account. Every account at every bank in the whole country. And you cannot open a new account for a year.>> <<@DaddyBearXXXL says : The last time I used banks was when one of them held certain charges and put them through in just the right order so I would be charged fees. And I had enough money in my account!!! I remember I had $150 in my account and I did like 5-6 transaction that holiday weekend. I had like $10 left. When Monday comes around they charged me $35 for each transaction. I was like I had money in my account. She was like well actually didn’t have that money in the account that you had pending charges that haven’t gone thru yet cause of the holiday weekend. I ended up getting like $350 in fees. 😡 what made me more angry I told them to put my account to not let me withdraw and to deny my transactions if I didn’t have the money.>> <<@LivN25 says : Chase bank screwed me over thousands of dollars and being in my 20s I didn’t realize it for a year. They connected my credit card to my bank account so if I over drafted my credit card would get charged plus a fee. I cried to them because that credit card already had a pretty significant balance on it. The person on the phone was callous and said it was my fault even after I told him no one explained this to me EVER. I may hold some responsibility on educating myself but I felt they had deliberately been vague about it to accrue fees. I immediately switched to a credit union and never paid an overdraft fee again.>> <<@sevilnatas says : It seems to me that a bank should only be allowed to charge an overdraft fee if they pay the charge that pushed the person into overdraft. If the bank rejected the charge, because the person didn't have enough in their account to cover it, what would the purpose of the fee be?>> <<@jame950 says : Before wells fargo got sued the first time, i had been charged 300 dollars over the course of a little over a week (a pay period basically) so when i got paid, i didnt have the miney from my paycheck to even cover the overdraft fees, so i just stopped using wells fargo then they got sued.>> <<@untriedanduntested says : So maybe you should stop both sidesing the democrats and republicans. It’s ridiculous you have all these shows shitting on democrats when they are the only ones doing things like this that only benefit the poorest in this nation. Your purity politics is just so frustrating to listen to, especially when the alternative is so terrifying.>> <<@kimmcdonagh6756 says : Never authorize your bamk to do overdraft protection. Its not worth it. Just have rhem decline the transaction of there isnt enough money on the account. Much easier & safer.>> <<@viperspd2 says : This doesn’t make sense at all. Nowadays debit transactions are near real time. You can get alerted by your bank the second a transaction is made or attempted. So why do they even need to “overdraft.” If there is not enough money in the account the debit card transaction just shouldn’t go through. The fact that it does go through even when the bank clearly knows the balance in real time means they are deliberately trying to steal more money from their customers.>>
