Defendant’s motion alleges that Wade paid for personal travel for Fani Willis and himself, possibly using funds that he derived from his hourly compensation as a Special Prosecutor. Even if that allegation is true–and even if the sole source of Wade’s funds was his hourly compensation as a Special Prosecutor–that financial arrangement between Willis and Wade similarly does not create a financial incentive for Willis to seek a conviction rather to prosecute the case fairly. Also, you cannot say the money for that trip did not come from funds he already had in his bank account versus tax payer money from this case. Example: If Nathan Wade had $40,000 in his bank account even before he met Fani Wills and they went on a trip for $15,000, That would be almost impossible to prove in court. Speculation in public is not actual evidence in court. Any claims regarding overpayment will be based upon solely on the hourly rate not the grand total paid over a two (2) year period. In addition, last year the Office of the Attorney General of Georgia used hundreds of Special Assistant Attorneys General (SAAGs). Some of those attorney hired by the State of Georgia were paid $1,000 per hour. Lastly, even if Wade paid for personal travel with Willis, she has not acquired a personal interest or stake in the defendant’s conviction or the indictment performed by a Grand Jury not Fani Wills nor Nathan Wade. Any issues related to dismiss and/or disqualification can only related to the effects on the merits of the case and if their actions prejudice the defendant, which they do not.
