How much that does affect the nutritional value? I assume the good stuff degrades, but how much? Here in the Netherlands they sell 'classic' olive oil which is refined oil made from leftover olives that are rotting. People pay more for it because it's supposed to better for cooking (it's not).

US grows plants too. They have California and the southern states. The deal in the US is, they'd take anyone because they are accepting and friendly, but can be r4c1st too when they feel like they will not benefit from the exchange. The US doesn't have much produce compared to other countries because their land owners prioritized real estate and occupancy (that's why they currently have 350+ milliion people, they love taking in people), they would also try to expand territory, take in more people, and basically, like I mentioned, BUSINESS. US is ambitious, go-getting, liberated, friendly and successful but needs other people around the world to make it happen for themselves for they will as well, take people inside their country who wishes to be a part of that. They have 300 million people and I'm still shocked about that. U.S. has finally found their strength in capitalism, etc.. they really are like Switzerland.

Ok I love you Johnny but this is completely false … its so cheap , easy and actually very fun to pick olives because its usually a family activity Olive tree literally requires zero maintenance and can survive and give you the best quality oil depending only on rain

It is true. Look at the label, you will see olives from Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy… etc. they buy the worst of the olives, and then try to sell them as real olive oil, Being from Spain I can tell you that I had a hard time looking for real olive oil Right now, I buy organic extra virgin oil from the San Remo compagnia ( Italian) or the Graza (from Spain). Both very good. The rest I find them yucky.

If any of you ever go to Crete (Greece) I strongly advise you to go to Biolea near Chania. They have amazing crew there and will explain you whole process of making extra virgin olive oil. They have milled olive oil, where most of manufacturers using like big blenders. Their olive has been certified as a medical product by EU. I tried hundreds of different olive oils and their is by far the best I ever consumed. When I was there last time there was a couple from US CA and they bought a lot of it.

I had a Spanish colleague once. He claimed that the mafia was sitting on a big chunk of the olive oil market. According to him in many cases you can’t trust the claimed origin of the oil (e.g. bottle said it was from Greece but in fact it came from Spain) AND that they would often “thin” the true extra virgin oil with other cheaper oils. I don’t know if it’s true but I hear more and more stories about bottles with extra virgin not really containing just that. Also my former colleague had a grandpa who produced extra virgin olive oil in Spain. So I guess he had some insider knowledge
