It really puts into context how āsmallā the world is todayā¦ those distances are insane for a boat averaging a fast walking pace and full of men dying from diseases and starvation, and having no clue what is even on the other side of the journey or if theyāll live to see it. Now, you can literally book a flight, research your destination and learn the language on just your phoneā¦ you can travel to another country in less time than it took to raise an anchor back then! Literallyā¦ it took hundreds of men sometimes half a day to raise the massive anchors on those ships because they were so heavy. Those dudes are cranking away for hours and Iām already stepping off the air conditioned plane into an Uber where Iāll drive to a house I booked on my phone in another country a few hours agoā¦ thatās insane!

I've been reading some things about Spain and the American provinces in your website. You still apply the anglosaxon concept of colonies. Spain incorporated those territories as provinces, not colonies. I've been reading very little in your website. But I'd like to add that in the chapter about 1546, the silver mining, Spain didn't use black slaves. That slavery was prohibited in the Tordesilla treaty, 1494, and only Portugal had black slaves. Yes, Spain was the first country in the world to forbid slavery.
