The reality? Do you really think it's responsible to compare regular nuclear coolant wastewater with water that's been in a nuclear MELTDOWN? Do you, make the same comparison with Chernobyl? because that's what Fukushima is. It's not a working nuclear plant, it's 3 reactors that's gone through nuclear meltdown with exposed fuel in what's called an Elephant's foot. there was also multiple chemical explosions. And all you media meatheads are talking about "tritium levels" as if that's an equivalent comparison. The IAEA is not a neutral party. TEPCO defending IAEA's refusal to allow third party independent testing of Fukushima waters is not a neutral situation. The IAEA having no issues blocking third party for TEPCO makes it not a neutral party. Also, what's released isn't going to travel far, at least not anytime soon. Most of it is not going to disperse as easily. The radioactive particles are much heavier than water, and that means it'll just sink into the areas surrounding the power plant, and continue to breakdown there, and the bulk of what'll be affected are the coastlines north of there, as in the shallows from Sendai to Kushiro. Where are your facts here? Oh right, "white people say tritium, done."

<<@TheReykjavik
says :
It is very annoying that of all the media I've seen on this, not a single presentation has bothered to give the level of radiation of the wastewater in context of background radiation in the ocean. Just the most basic facts are fully absent from the story.
>>
<<@theldraspneumonoultramicro405
says :
China is dumping unfiltered nuclear waste water straight from the reactor into the ocean from multiple powerplants, the water from those is hundreds of times more radioactive. the water Japan is releasing is cleaner and safer then the ocean they dump it in. nuclear fearmongering seriously need to be made illegal and punishable.

Funny how you used β nuclear waste water β and not contaminated water. ??? Nice choice π f words ya just fell off the pedestal of being a good reporting source. The water is not bad and yes all plants do it. Its just the left over water that was used for steam ??? Boooo. Nuclear energy is literally the best renewable source available and you are fear mongering

<<@ElEheyeh

The only nuclear element left in the water is tritium and there is less in the water they are releasing into the ocean than there is in Japans drinking water.
>>
<<@jimmyf.x.9526
says :
You give such a wrong information that is so dangerous! Japan's water directly touched the radioactive material because the reactor had a meltdown. US's water is for cooling, it never in direct contact with the core.

<<@mattphillips2844

Misleading reporting here. Controlled releases do occur, but they are permitted releases in very small quantities. The nasty stuff is generally allowed to decay first in holdup tanks to safe levels first or disposed of in other controlled means ( sealed drums etc). .What Roman failed to mention is that when you burn coal at a similar sized plant 10x the radiation is airborne released due to a radioactive isotope in coal. The bottom line is yes some is released but is better monitored and a whole lot more regulated and much less in quantity than many other types of power production. Not to mention the other comments here being correct about flying eating bananas and other activities that give you a lot more exposure. That is why this reporting is so misleading.
