FDR responded to the will of the people. That's what public servants are supposed to do. Yes, John, he did come into office with a vision for improvements and prosperity for the American people in mind. He campaigned on it. Hence the New Deal and the campaign song "Happy Days are Here Again".

Everywhere on planet Earth celebrates May Day on May Day because of the Haymarket Riots except for the US. You have "labor" day instead, a day that literally no one else cares about on planet Earth. Not really leaders of the free world at all, then. You should see China's May Day Parades in honour of the Haymarket Martyrs. What a shame none of you have the stones over there to just be the same as the rest of us, like with not having spree shootings or with the having free healthcare. I wonder who the martyred dead in this famous song's lyrics are about. I guess you guys would be too scared to ever sing it or call Republicans pinkos, like I do online, they never have any answers to that one either. Stay beaten, America. The people's flag is deepest red, It shrouded oft our martyred dead, And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold, Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold. Then raise the scarlet standard high. Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here. Look 'round, the Frenchman loves its blaze, The sturdy German chants its praise, In Moscow's vaults its hymns are sung Chicago swells the surging throng. Then raise the scarlet standard high. Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here. It waved above our infant might, When all ahead seemed dark as night; It witnessed many a deed and vow, We must not change its colour now. Then raise the scarlet standard high. Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here. It well recalls the triumphs past, It gives the hope of peace at last; The banner bright, the symbol plain, Of human right and human gain. Then raise the scarlet standard high. Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here. It suits today the weak and base, Whose minds are fixed on pelf and place To cringe before the rich man's frown, And haul the sacred emblem down. Then raise the scarlet standard high. Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here. With heads uncovered swear we all To bear it onward till we fall; Come dungeons dark or gallows grim, This song shall be our parting hymn. Then raise the scarlet standard high. Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Greetings from Finland where May Day is a major holiday! I took part in my party's, the Left Alliance's, May Day parade and a party member told the story of the holiday's US origins when presenting the speakers of the event. On a more personal note, following the progressive politics of the US actually made me more invested in my own country's decision-making and inspired me to join the party I currently am a member of. Thank you, TYT, and happy May Day in retrospect! :)

I guess each president offered at least one good thing during their presidency...

Yeah, let the government provide better wages, just as those of the 19th Century who wanted Universal Slavery advocated, along with welfare programs providing the daily needs, government provided healthcare and repeal of the Second Amendment. Sociology For The South by Pro-Slavery Advocate George Frizhugh. However, back in the 19th Century, too many people saw it was their own duty to not only provide for their own families, but also to store against future wants, like bad year of harvest, long winters, other things that may create want so Universal Slavery didn't appeal to them. But today, nine meals from societal collapse, (Average household maintains three days worth of food) a lot of people are willing to sell their liberties for the illusion of security and call government "Massa."
