The right loves to call "liberalism" a mental illness while posting their m*rder fantasies. The focus on "mental illness" scapegoating has always terrified me terrified me. While it's true that the shooter's family found twice tried to remove guns from their house, they also claim their kid had "emotional problems." I can't help but wonder if they thought the shooter's struggle with gender identity was what they referred to.>> <<@BytheCaye says : Are there usually this many right wing dick riders in the comments or is it just because they're afraid of taking responsibility for weapons lmao>> <<@EnilSsab says : Buy more guns. Besides tell me how u get rid of illegal guns?>> <<@kungfumachinist says : But "proper mental health analysis" of trans people isn't allowed. It's literally illegal to do what might be called "conversion therapy". That means any health care professional is not going to do anything that might be interpreted as such for fear of losing license.>> <<@jansean2497 says : It’s the only way to protect people from his state.>> <<@carbonado1 says : I think it’s a fake out.>> <<@ThreeDogsTwoCatsAndAWife says : I agree with the concerns, however you have take what gun control advocates can get. Yes, this should not be trans specific and it should be applied to anyone who is a risk to themselves or others.>> <<@Anarchy-Is-Liberty says : So it's OK for trans people and "blacks" to have guns, but nobody else? OK, got it!!>> <<@nubreaks2 says : Like many noted, one of the victims was a family friend who was supposed to have dinner with his wife that night.>> <<@sayuas4293 says : TYT: nonstop whining about wanting gun control A state tries to do gun control TYT: oh no dangerous what about identity politics>> <<@scottheathco7323 says : fyi..this was introduced at the start of the last week of the session and they are planning on leaving early..😂>> <<@jolliff5902 says : How about all gun purchasers have to pass a psychological test?>> <<@Terry-te1ij says : Speaking of the Nashville killer, what happened to Audrey Hale's manifesto? TyT here is the thing. There is valid concern over how this order would be implemented. But you should really take a solution oriented approach. Instead of just pointing out "concerns" about x y and z because it is being done by entities you dont trust because of political difference of opinions etc, why not supplement it by saying how you want it done instead in that state. Okay, you dont want law enforcement implementing it. Alright, HOW do you want it implemented so that it has positive effect rather than negative, dicuss its feasibility and practicality and if you dont have an alternative, then weight whether your concerns justify not moving forward on the gun control issue when there is no actual speciifc indication in the bill about targeted harming of trans people. For example, lt us start with the discussion assuming the law is not being misused - when there is a domestic violence call and the dude owns a gun and it is in the house. What next? The police come in and remove the person from the scene. The fight is broken up but the woman doesnt wanna press charges. This is not the first time, it is a regular occurence. You can tell as a police officer that the dude hasnt calmed down fully. You cant technically take him to the stattion or anything. You think it is a good idea to take the gun away. Now what? What will you implement in the bill to make sure this is only happening to people like this and the police arent using it as an excuse to just take guns away from a specific community? Should you be allowed to take the gun away, have a mandatory psych eval for anger issues and if the pysch suggests have him go through anger management before he gets gun back? Else, hand the gun back after psych eval, great, who pays for the eval and anger management? Consider the increased workload on police and the shrink. How would you ensure he goes to the classes? Should the gun be returned only if the shrink says? what happens when the gvt doesnt want to pay for the eval and hence no anger management ever happens? And then compare that with. What happens when police just take the gun away "temporarily" could be 2 days, a week, a month. It may prevent some instances, but how effective is it if there is just a removal for a few days without therapy. Also, considering police just have the body cams these days, we can tell when guns are being confiscated disproportionately from people who didnt deserve to have them taken away and where they are letting people keep them who shouldnt. How likely are the repub states willing to allow the therapy and stuff and realistically discuss what would be something that could actually work there. Also, I understand the practical implications of this but technically taking away guns from certain communities isnt genocide per se. And fear of that (which may not materialise) standing in the way of some law being passes might actually be dumb. Especially considering the trans people may not be out and about as much in that state to begin with. Just poking holes will just give the right the ammunition that the left doesnt want gun reform. So you are being self defeatist here by over complicating things. Best thing would be to demand oversight and regular revaluation by legislature of the demographic from whom guns are confiscated and what were the outcomes. Else, you are not helping anyone's case here.>> <<@gfystarshine says : Are they starting to crumble??>> <<@andrewm6424 says : Ana, you’re off-base with that transgender slight. This is exactly why people fear red flag laws. And yes you're just now understanding that giving law enforcement the ability to seize weapons might skew right??? Duh!!! Yes EVERY political body will weaponize the ability to seize guns from citizens. EVERY state will do this. You suddenly understand that giving gun rights away is problematic when it might be selectively applied. It will ALWAYS be selectively applied. That's the freaking point guys! All lawmakers have a bias. All of them are going to have irrational fears triggering tyrannical actions. You want to actually fix this??? Start with a minimum standards national gun license that doesn't override what local laws allow. Make it legal for people to travel across the country with their firearm with a minimum standards license all states must honor. Include registration of their weapon, 4 round clip maximum, training, and yearly psych evaluations. People will voluntarily agree to this who otherwise wouldn't. Psych evaluations will help bring up problematic individuals who can get help. Training will include some psych resources as well and help educate people on the consequences of misuse. Red flag laws only serve to form witch hunts>> <<@4dogs999 says : Well hallelujah It took a religious school to make that happen 😢 But at least they care about those kids>> <<@hunternedib1119 says : The law clearly states that people with mental illness can not possess firearms.>> <<@fearless_ambassador_ambo says : As a TN resident, I can confirm that Gov. Lee is an empty suit and entirely beholden to the rabid conservative Republican base. This is the ABSOLUTE LEAST amount of effort he can put into making a show of "doing something" about this while actually doing nothing. It is the most he can do and still be able to attempt damage control with those who would have no regulations whatsoever. TN is fine if you're white, male, heterosexual, evangelical Christian, conservative, and Republican. Anyone else is an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis. I wish I could apologize for this massive, distracting, illusionary magic trick/sleight of hand being pulled by Gov. Lee, but I did not vote for him. He is a symptom of a much larger disease running deep in TN.>> <<@catherinewilliams9680 says : He knows it will die in the House. This is a cynical means in which to garner support in his state. The gerrymandered house will be the bad guys and push back at the governor's statement and not do anything on this issue because they know they won't lose their seats in 18 months. An executive order is useless if there is a lack of funding to support the order. And the house will make sure there is no funding available. Just to make sure, they will offer tax cuts to ensure there is no funding available>> <<@samizdat113 says : So no guns for trans? Cool.>> <<@katherinewillfong9585 says : Trying to assure he will be reelected. Well, it just might not work and he will be sent on his way after the next governor election 💙💙💙 Top to bottom TN.>> <<@jenniferrowe7484 says : Totally agree. They just passed a drag show ban, the governor supports open carry, there is a GOP supermajority in our state legislature...Lee is trying to appease the agitators enough to make them shut up. Anything passed will give lip service to "gun control" while creating a new avenue for discrimination. He's reeling from the national backlash over expelling the Justins & doesn't actually support any kind of gun laws.>> <<@mikeshafer5366 says : That was 1979 to 1981.>> <<@mikeshafer5366 says : When I was in high school which had close to 3thousand kids in 3 grades. The only thing to worry about was getting caught skipping class smoking cigs or weed. Not 1 time did I ever worry about getting shot in school>> <<@nistere1504 says : Without our first amendment our second amendment means nothing>> <<@michaelbuehler3897 says : This will not end well for him.>>
