This is a TERMINAL fair, which means that you sign a contract saying you will sell the animal. This was also this girl’s 1st year. My first year was terrible, I raise hogs for this fair and the first year sucked, I about cried my eyes out when i realized i would never see my pig again. This was 100% on the family as they took the animal off fair grounds after it was sold, which means they do NOT own the animal any more and technically stole the animal from the buyer. I apologize if this was complicated to read. I saw this on a law channel, and it turns out if the girl was the one who signed the contract, she can't be legally held to abide by it. This should have been handled by a court. I spent years in 4-H (horses), and learned so much, kept out of trouble, and made friends (which I found pretty difficult at school; while I was an excellent student). 4-H gave me the peer group I really needed, and I absolutely loved it. I'd totally recommend it for kids. So what do you think would prompt them to be in such a panic to get this goat to his doom? Only a very few ethnic minorities in the USA eat goat. I got the bird, pinned it's wings down, brought the knife to its throat and immediately broke down. I remember asking myself why it had to die and what right i had to take its life. We weren't starving so it wasn't necessary. The tears came rolling down and i just abandoned the mission. Thankfully i didn't have some bastard pin me down and make me kill it. She understood and took the task off my hands. She understood i was the soft one and didn't make me feel bad for it. Let's not mistake cruelty for a life lesson. She could have learned about killing a goat some other day but not that day. Part of the process is butchering the animals. If the girl wanted a pet, her mother should have bought her a pet. The goat was a farm animal, raised to be meat. The girl learned a hard but necessary lesson. That's part of life. If she had kept the goat, all she would have learned was, if you whine enough, you get your way. However, there is a Dispute over the Property, Right or Wrong, with 3 Parties claiming control of the Goat! The Raid was an Obvious Tactic to Circumvent any attempt to bring this to Court! As to "Following the Rules", though 4H WAS following the Rules, The Shasta Fair followed the Rules, I see nothing that says Sen. Dahle did not follow the Rules. The Sheriff's Office followed the Letter of the rules in Executing a Warrant. The Longs Broke the Rules, though the Little Girl's sobbing is Irrelevant. However, any Dispute can be Decided LEGALLY by the Courts- which the Police made SURE could Not be Resolved BY THE RULES. If the Fair wanted this handled Quietly, that should have been done in the Backroom, Not by making a Public Police Report! Hugs, Miss Long! The real story is the mother let her daughter treat it like a pet, fall in love with it & got upset that someone bought it to be slaughtered. The mother took the goat to a farm, which technically she stole it because it was bought already. The man wanted his property & they found it & ate it. Parent is upset now 😢 cry me a river maybe you shouldn't of let your daughter join a school 4H club when you should know they auction off the animals. Like the the man said, "wasn't it the senator's goat at that point" and the fair had no legal standing to dictate or intervene in the destiny of the goat once the gavel went down at the auction. The fair was completely out of the picture the moment the hammer hit the wood. And, the senator agreed to "sell" the animal to the mother of the girl and had the complete legal right to do so. It was hit goat!!!! The fair was promised due compensation and had nothing to lose and no damages to claim. The fair was just totally out of line in every way imaginable. Morally, financially, legally the fair wins the top prize for the stupidest unjustified and inhuman actions. "Teach children to obey the rules". Dumbest statement ever vocalized when the fair broke every rule and LAW that is applicable to the situation. Teach the children that you can literally steal something that you sold, and by all rights you have relinquished your claim to it, take it back, and do whatever you want to with it.
